A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Checking a non-running engine

well, the 1100 crankcases and the cranksfaft came back from the engine reconditioners and the verdict is not so good.
apparently, the crankases "tunnel" where the crankshaft sits is so much out of alignment that it can't be repaired. it must have been a might crash to twist/misalign the cases.

the crankshaft seems ok though.

so, i guess Bruno stays an 850 for now... :(

Hi Ivor
I've only just noticed this thread. Sorry to hear that your cases are US.

I know that Ian Anderen in Rotorua has a completely stripped 1000G engine for sale. That might do the trick if you can get it cheap enough!

I don't have any spares with mine and won't know it's true condition until the rebuild in a couple of years time.

any contact details by any chance, mate?

Gday Ivor mate
Sorry to hear about the cases.
Let me know if you want me keep an ear out down 'ere.
Cheers

FYI - There was a GS1100G (I think - it was a later model shaft drive 2 valver) at Atomic wreckers last week when i was there picking up some bits for my GS1000.
The top end including the cylinder block was off the engine but it looked OK for your purposes (i.e. rebuild) and it was still in the (rolling)frame. In fact i purchased aftermarket the crash bars fitted to it.

Cheers. TW.

i've checked it out today - didn't think it looked too good... no known history, the guy's not sure if all the parts are even there, and it looks like it's been sitting outside with the barrels off the cases... quite a few bits are coroded, incl the crankshaft... he wants $450 for it... so i figure that's too much of a gamble all up :(
i asked if he wanted to sell the bottom end only (thinking i could use just the crankcases and the rest of the internals from the other engine) but the guy's not interested

We had a guy like that here.... He went out of business.
He wanted $200 for a used clutch:eek:
I got one off here for cheap:rolleyes:

Pack all those little pieces in boxes, maybe some day you will find some cases

How much do the empty cases weigh?

Out of curiousity, I was looking on Fedex website and you can ship a
25kg box from USA to Auckland,NZ for around $300.

yeah, that's about right... which comes close to buying that whole engine here...
unless i can find a running engine here that i know is worth the investment, Bruno will have to do with its 850cc
