A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Whaddya mean? It's still available OEM. It's called "STARTER CABLE" and it's on the handlebar fiche.

There may not be an aftermarket cable, but you can get one from Suzuki for about $12 - $15.

You may be looking at the wrong model. I've found some of the parts fiche information gets strange when you begin to divide the models up in a given year. On bike Bandit it doesn't show a GS850GL with the cable going to the handlebar, even though the handlebar switch assembly has the thumb lever for it. It shows the cable that goes up through the triple T mount like the GS850G models.

On ProSourceMotorSports.com they show the cable as part number 58300-45301 (Replaces 58410-45301) for the '83 GS850GLD and part number 58410-49X00 (Replaces 58410-45300) for the '83 GS850GLX model. Both cables look exactly the same in the picture, and neither looks like the one on a GS850G.

I know the mount you want, and the way they attach to the carbs is very different. You might have to order both just to make sure...they are less than $8 each. Good luck.

actually that is the cable Im looking for...have no idea why it would be called a starter cable...its a choke, not a starter. THATS why I couldnt find it. thanks for the help guys...will order asap.

Well...

Technically, it's not a "choke". A choke partially blocks off the airflow through the carb in order to create a richer mixture.

On a 1980+ GS, the cable activates an "enrichener" circuit that allows the carb slides to get yanked up further, which creates a richer mixture.

Same effect, but they are different. Here in the US, we just call anything that creates a richer mixture a "choke". Others might call it an enrichener cable.

With Suzuki parts, you're also dealing with iffy translations from Japanese, so the concept of "starter" cable, as in "thingy that helps you start the bike" seems to be what came across.
