DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

So, you fix your GS and when you finish you go to wash your hands and you ran out of fast orange or any other hand cleaner.........
Use soap or degergant and mix with 2 SPOONFULS OF SUGAR, rub it in real well and wash your hands off with water............
Done deal!

Have never tried the sugar, but we always have either Joy or Dawn dishwashing soap at the kitchen sink. That and a decent hand brush works well, too.

.

Soap up hands and then just rub in the soil in the garden. Work the 'mud' sludge that you create into your hands and they will come up cleaner than ever (after you rinse it off). It's the fine silica in the soil that does the trick.

Womens beauty products contain minerals etc. I don't know why they don't just use garden soil - LOL .

Great tip! First I have to wrestle the sugar bowl away from my spouse.

Dishsoap and a little salt or sand ( sandblaster).

As the man said its the silica or pumice that does the scouring.

Good tip Phil.

Cheers,
Spyug.

Oh yeah. Forgot to mention don't use salt if you've got cuts on the mitts:oops:

Thanks for the save Zooks.

i've found that brake fluid does wonders, then wash with soap. might also try some cooking oil first, then soap.

I like the original GoJo brand hand cleaner myself, but even better is not getting your hands in that condition in the first place, so you could buy some latex or nitrile gloves to keep your pinkies clean from the getgo.

Using gloves is a good plan and I do put them on sometime. One draw back I find (especialy in warm months) is that my hands sweat a lot which is uncomfortable after a while. Also depending on what you are working with those gloves can melt. Cleaning with acetone is one wayI know to melt them off your digits.

I'm really from the old school ( what an over used phrase) and always worked with naked hands so its hard to get the same feel with gloves on. I have several pairs of mechanics gloves which aren't as sweat inducing as the vinyl or nitriles but you still lose the feel so I usually forget to wear them too.

Orange cleaner with a scrub brush usually gets most of the grunge out from under the nails if not out of the cracks in the skin.

Cheers,
Spyug

No hand cleaner around? Try using something from the laundry cleaning area. I use spray n wash to clean my hands when greasy. spray on, rub real good, use soap and water to finish. also seems to work good when no soap or water available, just gotta have a towel of some type to wipe hands on.

The best of the best!!!

The best of the best!!!

I have used this method for years one of the best motorhead tips my father ever gave me.
Try rubbing in some plain old motor oil or automotive tranny fluid it also works fairly well..

The salt thing will work unless your gonna cry about a little sting, but the salt melts quicker than sugar does for some reason...

I just keep a jar of orange hand cleaner in the shop to get my hands clean enough to enter the house, then dish soap with a hand/fingernail brush.

Same here, except it's sonlight soap and sugar.

Preventative maintenance

Preventative maintenance

Hi,

When I know I'm going to get really dirty, I just spray some Simple Green on my hands, rub it in and let it dry before I get started. It makes clean-up a lot easier.

Thank you for your indulgence,

BassCliff

I've heard shampoo will cut grease like nothing else, but I haven't had a chance to try it since I still have a ton of gojo. I think I heard it's also good for getting oil stains off the garage floor, or maybe that was laundry detergent. They probably both work.
