I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Clutch cable and boot

I was lookin' over my bike and noticed that my clutch cable is worn down to the innner sleave and the boot is basically shredded. I found a replacement cable over at D2Moto (I have had great experience with them for my KLR), but the pictures don't show the boot (etc). Does anyone have a supplier that they can recommend for the boot as well?

If someone wants pictures, I can put something up (but only if requested) ...

Anyone have any ideas for me ... or should I not worry about replacing the clutch-cable because of a little bit of wearing?

If the cable is in need of replacing, then do it, you don't want a snapped cable, as for the boot you really don't need it, but you can order from just about any Suzuki dealer

many in the US, like Boulevard Suzuki, can get you many parts that you might need

see all of this in your mega welcome package

I'd get an original Suzuki cable. It comes with the boot.

Not to mention they are usualy better quality than the aftermarker ones.

I was just coming to post something similar, so I'm going to piggy back on.

I was lubing my clutch cable last night and noticed the cable is fraying a little bit. Hard to see in the picture...

Is that replacement time?

Definitely replace. A snapped clutch cable is no fun when your out on the road, happened to me once and it was an aftermarket one. Not saying all aftermarket stuff is bad but when its things like cables and such, go with oem.

I agree. Replace it with an OEM cable and keep that one as an emergency spare. No fun being in the middle of the Smokey Mountain Forest when the cable lets go and you have 40+ miles to ride back to the cabin.

I'll order one then.

I went looking on here for some sort of tutorial on how to do it, but didn't find one.

May just take it to the shop, let them do it and give it a good once over. Make sure everything else looks cool.

Personally I wouldn't buy OEM as they are so expensive and we can get pattern cables just as good over here. I suppose it depends on what you can get.

As an alternative you could always buy a CZ the same as in my avatar - no need for a cable there. 'Look ma - no hands'. Baffles them all.

I don't mind a little bit of a piggy-back ...

For those wondering, D2Moto has the cables listed for about $10 ( http://www.d2moto.com/p-23707-clutch-cable-1981-1983-suzuki-gs850-gs850g-gs850gl.aspx ) ... I looked on sites like BikeBandit / MotorcycleSuperStore and couldn't find the clutch-cable listed through their search-engines, so I gave up on them.

I can call one of the local 'Zuki dealers and see if they can help me with a factory unit, but, I would be expecting to bend over and grab my ankles as they drive it in deep! They wanted $1100 just to work my busted-carbs over ..
