A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Ive been trying to search but Ive been getting the fatal error message so much that I searched to figure out what that was about lol. Needless to say, Im unable to find anything on this topic. I cant stop my clutch cover from leaking.

First I tried an aftermarket gasket. That made the leak worse. I put some permatex on it and that didnt help.

After reading the oem was better.. I tried that. No luck. I took it to a shop where they seemed to know old bikes well. He informed me there were a few issues.. a locating pin was missing, something about open screws he fixed... another oem gasket went in. Its leaking while just sitting on the center stand now. I only ran it for about 3 minutes after I brought it home from the shop where it sat for 2 days. The good news is that it was leaking from the rear bolts. Now its only leaking from one... yay for progress.

I read that the torque spec is 8lbs? Is that right? Seems low. There is some hondabond on it that the shop guy tried.

Is there something funky about this location that is unique to 1978 gs1000 E? any additional input would be appreciated.

I marked the particular bolt that is giving me issues

something must be warped. When you take of the cover drop it on a plate of glass, or something perfectly flat and see if it's warped. That or someone went over board scraping old gasket material off and took some aluminum along with it? These things usually seal up pretty easily with an OEM gasket.

I also had a leak from the bolts on the clutch cover. Applying plenty of liquid sealant to the tread of the bolts completely stop the leaking on my 750. With an after marked gasket :)

I think this should do it in your case to. Good luck

8 foot-pounds is PLENTY. Do NOT over-torque these bolts.

Something is warped, damaged, or cracked.
