    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Clutch HELP!

[FONT=Times New Roman, Times, serif]After replacing my clutch case cover my clutch no longer engages. The clutch release rack can move freely in and out about 1/4 of an inch and the clutch release pinion can rotate freely in the cover. Should there be some resistance in the release rack or shoudl it move freely. I shifted in to first and stalled right away when the clutch lever was pulled in all the way. There is no resistance and the clutch lever does not return when released.

Clymers doesnt seem to explane it too much. I searched around but the threads that seem to be related to me havent been solved yet :S
 
Thanks cowboy. When it is installed i can pull the clutch in all the way with out resistance and i dont think there should be that much free play with it.
 
Okay, service manual is taking too long for me to download. You might do well to get it from Basscliff's site if you don't already have it and read through it. It will provide better info than the Clymers sometimes. Of course, I'd also check and make sure everything is connected the correct way and make sure your cable is still good.

EDIT: And since Chef posted before me, listen to him first over anything I would say.
 
I checked it out and the gears are meshed. the clutch won't engage when I change the position of the pinion. It won't let me squeeze the lever at all
 
Is it possible that my clutch is seized in the disengaged position since it does of seem to budge when pulling on the lever?
 
Sounds like you need to pull the lever off the splines pre tension the rack and push it back on. Chances are you will have to adjust the cable to its slackest first so you are not struggling trying to get it back on.

There is only a small amount of movement in the lever and if you have put the pinion back in a different position on the rack it has no chance of working.

Certainly it is possible, but it is also improbable. On that type of clutch actuation it is more probable that the lever position is not correct, as tatu suggests.
Pull the lever, then rotate it counterclockwise a couple of teeth. This is your coarse adjustment. Reinstall the lever at its new position and try again. Once you start to feel resistance, use the adjustment in the cable on the clutch cover to get close. Once you are close, use the adjustment on the bars to fine tune it.
