    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Clutch not moving..gs450

Hey guys,
I am working on my project gs450, it sat around for a few years and when i got it the clutch was impossible to operate, so today i took a look and it seems like the pin that the clutch lever pushes doesnt move in at all.
I can pull it out but it wont go in any further
Does anyone have suspicions what that might be?
also on the right side of the bike i was trying to take off the crank case cover and had no luck the damn thing just wont come off.. any tips or tricks?
im sure ill get it off after i sleep on it a bit.

any comments and suggestions welcome

How far is that pin supposed to move?
and isnt it supposed to bounce back once its pushed in?
mine currently moves about 5mm to one side and then it needs to be pushed back to the other.

is that normal?
if not any diagnosis?
 
The pin name is clutch pushrod. We need to know the year model of your 450 as there were more than one type of clutch pushrod. There was a two piece pushrod and a one piece pushrod. The two parts that you highlighted in your pictures are not the same part. One of the parts pushes against the other to actuate the clutch.

I figured out it out, for some reason all my clutch plates were sized together.
not sure how that happened.. but i guess im getting new ones.
 
Well done. Keep at it. There is help at hand if you need it. My 550 has a very similar if not identical setup as your 450.
 
Hey, I have a GS 550 1980, and the same problem. I just replaced the clutch plates and springs, and now the pulling the clutch does not disengage the gears.

Previously, I had the opposite problem, wherein the bike wouldn't go into gear at all. I would put it in 1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc, and the bike would roll like it was in neutral.

I started tightening and loosening the pushrod mechanism (the screw without a head, under the separate compartment that is mounted to the plate covering the clutch cable, clutch cable spring and gear as shown in MadMaze's first pic). All this loosening got the bike to engage in gear. I was thrilled.

But now I've found no way to get the clutch to work. I can get the clutch real tight, to where you can barely pull back the lever, but that still doesn't disengage the gears like i'd like.

Any ideas?
