    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

clutch problems

Hello, I have an 81 750 and am having some clutch issues. when the bike is not fully warmed up and I put it in gear it gives a clunk and i can feel the bike wanting to move forward slightly as if the clutch is not fully disengaged. once I'm on the road and moving, I will get some clutch slippage under mild-hard acceleration. ounce the bike is fully warm the clutch disengages fine at stop lights and the slippage goes away for the most part. Its slips just a tiny bit at high rpm's. When I say not fully warmed up I mean I can feel the engine is warm to the touch but not full temp, I usually give it about 2 minutes to warm up before I have to go. bad clutch/week springs?
 
Sounds like it's worth trying new springs. That's an easy and cheap job I would give it a go and see what happens.

Maybe change the oil as well if it's been a while.
 
Yup sounds right you me,u know what oil is in it?Most use rotella,i love it no problems yet with the clutch.New springs in order to for me,i am tired of heavy duty ones.Hurts the worn out hands.
 
thanks for the help, ill try replacing the springs. alot cheaper than a clutch set. I run valvoline 4-stroke 20-50, thats the only thing they carry at the napa where i live and i changed it about 1k ago. the guy i bought the bike from left oil in t for a full year though, just sittin in his garage. i drove it home on that. hope that didnt do any harm. ive only had the bike for 1k miles (its at 18,500), but i love it! thanks again

Probably don't need to tell you, but...Make sure you give the plates and clutch basket a good inspection while you have that open. May save you from having to tear it apart again, asol if you have not taken the cover off before make sure the teeth on the pull rod that sits in the center of clutch basket cover? has a good alinghment with clutch rod? that runs through clutch cover before you fill it with oil. It takes a bit of twisting to get them to fit together right. No need for you to make my mistake. And have to drain oil again to align correctly.
The words with the ? after them. Not sure of the technical terms.
 
awesome info!! much appreciate the input, and will be putting it all to good use. Ive done most of the things on that list already, the bike is super clean for its age. the previous owner did an amazing job at keeping it in good running order. I just personally adjusted the valves 500 miles ago, idles really smooth. only thing wrong is the clutch. I will definitely inspect the plates when I remove the basket and much appreciate the specific info on the clutch disengage rod. Thanks guys.
