    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Clutch will not disengage when lever is pulled in.

I have GS650 which had been standing for a few years, its on its centre stand with the chain and back wheel off. You can run the engine and you can go up and down the gears no problem and select neutral no problem. When pulling the clutch lever it is stiff when pulled in the front sprocket keeps spinning. If you try it without the engine running when you pull the lever in and try to turn the sprocket by hand it will turn but it is very stiff and does not turn freely like it should. What should I be like at to sort the issue.

You shoud be like... Adjusting the cable up a bit.
Or like... Measuring the cable length to make sure it hasnt streatched.
Or like.... Checking the clutch plates for excess wear and tear.
Or like... Measuring ya spring length and.... Springyness...

In gear,cold thick oil will not let clutch disconnect 100 %- there's a lot of drag, even more if bike has been sitting for years . Why is wheel/chain off ? Have you ridden this thing yet? mileage?

Your not really gona know what you have until you get the wheel and chain back on and ride it. Get it to operating temperature, adjust the clutch and go from there.

Wait for your mega welcome, get all the regular maintenence up to date, most of your problems will go away or you'll be able more closely diagnose the problem.

Not an expert, but I was beading the clutch on my '90 Katana, and with the bike on its center stand, in first and the clutch in I couldn't turn the rear wheel by hand. Thought I messed up the bleeding, but once I had the bike on the ground it is all fine. Motorcycle clutches and gear boxes are not cars.

I could be wrong but the spinning drive sprocket could just be hydrostatic movement because motorcycles use a wet clutch.

As already said, get the chain and wheel back on and try it on the ground.
