A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I have a bad clutch basket one of my 78 1000's. i have heard or read that a GS 1100 can be a good up gradeto the 1000 basket. As Isaid I either heard or read that it was possible. As I rendmber the basket( 1100) needs to be turned down on the out side edge so that it will clear the case on the 1000. My question is can anyone confirm this for me ? Has anyone on the site had hands on experance with this mod?

The 1100 basket is smaller diameter, but taller. You would have to shorten it to fit into the 1000 engine. At the end of the day you would have smaller discs so not sure how that would constitute an upgrade. I suggest you chase down a heavy duty back plate kit and install it on your basket. The clutch action is improved by the more solid feeling cush hub, and the idle noise is eliminated as well. My second 1000S has such a clutch and it's a big improvement over stock. If you go with an 1100 clutch you would still have to do this so what's the point of installing a smaller clutch?

i have done these.
the plus is the 1100 basket is solid and doesn't have the weak finger design like the pre-80 1000 baskets...but,
with the 1100 basket being made thinner it holds less plates and you have to add strong strings to keep it from slipping unless running a lock up type of mechanism.
i agree with Ed, modify a factory basket.

Thanks for the info . Do you know where to get either the parts to modify the stock basket or get it done?
