A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Coil compatability

I am reasonably sure all katana coils will work and all Bandit coils also. You can use any 3 ohm coil as long as it will physically fit the space on your bike.
Dyna greens are 3 ohm also and Accel come in 3 ohm (they're notably larger though)

Does anyone have more info on the compatibility of the Katana coils?

Awesome. Well I just bought two 2003 Katana 750 coils of eBay so we'll see how that goes :)

just from my experiance this guys

i tried some 6oof (what you might call a katana ) coils on my old 750e & although they did work they got hot very quickly, i changed them for a set of correct ohm cheepo aftermarket coils & didnt have a problem, the 600 coils have now been running my mates 1200 bandit for near on 3 years no problem

make of that what you will but i guess the use of coils meant for electronic ignitions are no good for a points setup :|

From my understanding that would be expected if you have a points ignition and you tried using the gsxf coils (I'm assuming that's what you're talking about). Impedance on coils for a points ignition are like 5 ohms, whereas for electric it's about 3 ohms. From what I've found the ignition on my bike is electronic, and the correct impedance is 3 ohms, which is hopefully what the katana coils will be ;)

Going a lower impedance than your system is set up for will cause things to overheat because there's less resistance to the amount of electricity running through them right? Whereas you can use coils with higher impedance without the overheating problem (but they push less than ideal power).

Hey thanks Freki that makes sense to me which is amazing as i know didly squat about electrickery

wires are full of smoke & sparks usually when i mess with them :-D
