A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Hey everyone i have a question that seems to have not been answered alot.
I have a 1980 gs 1000g that seemingly runs fine all but a slight tapping sound coming from the
Right side of the engine. Anyways i been having a problem with gas coming out of my airbox and its just a little bit. I only realize it the next morning after riding it. And while this is happening my bike seems to be flooding i would say. When i press the starter and hold it like you would NORMALLY sometimes it would just stop turning over and make a hissing sound like a leak coming from somewhere.(sound like from spark plugs). After i push the starter a couple of times(like 2 or 3) it would turn over fine.
Any suggestions and i apologize for the book.

Sorry i meant to say before i ride it i notice gas coming out the airbox.

Yes...that could be a sign of HYDROLOCK. I would take the carbs off and visually verify the float needles rise and fall freely and reliably. Also while they are off, reverify the float heights..sure to measure without the bowl gasket there.

Yep, your cylinders are filling with gas due to your petcock and carbs leaking, which causes hydrolock. I'd be real careful, in extreme cases you can actually bend a connecting rod from this.

This. 750 had this problem when I bought it. I bought a new petcock.

I would change the oil too before restarting the engine.

i second this. my petcock was leaking and filled my crankcase 2 times before i got everything sorted out.

Gas in your oil is a Baaaaad thing.

Holly crap my engkne oil is super filled. Dammit. But i rebuilt the petcock as in new gaskets as soon as u fit the gaskets on tight and the dont move the lever nothing comes out of the petcock at all but even when the bike is on and running no gas at all. Even stalls because of no gas. But the minute u turn the lever all HELL breaks loose and it doesnt stop flowing no matter where u turn it

Hi,

It's a well-known issue around here that petcock rebuild kits don't work that well. Get a new petcock. Go through the maintenance lists in the "mega-welcome".

Thank you for your indulgence,

BassCliff
