I've got a question with my pod filters, I'm not sure if they're paper or foam elements, and if I should oil them or not. They're the $6.50 filters from Bike Bandit.
http://www.bikebandit.com/partsbandit/product~pf_id~2748372~dept_id~929293.asp

If I do oil them, wouldn't that increase the resistance, hence richening my mixture? If that happens, what would I adjust to lean it out more, mixture screw, main needle, floats, or everything? thanks in advance

I can't tell looking at them. They're not paper though. I don't think they're foam either. Emgo is a cheaper brand that I believe uses a wire meshing to filter the air. Your pic' looks similar to Emgo's. I believe someone here bought these kinds of filters and said they didn't use oil. I can't imagine wiremeshing cleaning the air correctly.
I only recommend K&N's, which are a gauze filter that requires oiling.
Ask BikeBandit for the info. They should know what they're selling you.

well I know they've got some kind of element besides the wire mesh, looks like either a thin paper or foam element, I think I'll air on the side of safety and not oil them.
On another note, would raising my float levels increase the amount of fuel my bike gets at start up? meaning, is the engine trying to pump fuel from the bowls when starting? I was thinking about raising them all to help my bike get more fuel when starting.

Raising the fuel level will increase mixture at ALL time not just starting
Just make sure they are set to specs Make sure the choke cable is working
& adjusted properly

Yup! :) Find your float height in your manual and adjust them within that range. Don't adjust them for a higher fuel level to compensate for some other problem.

Also, I would ask the seller about oiling those filters instead of just assuming. You should be able to find out such basic info on a product. If you can see a foam in there, it would need oiling.
If they're meant to be oiled and you don't, you'll slowly damage the motor.

bikebandit is very helpful over their online live help, maybe give that a shot?

I emailed EMGO, and got two replies. the first one was saying that they were all wire elements, which didn't make sense, cause I can see the inner element, and it's not wire.
The second email did say that it is a paper element, so that solves it. he said no oiling of the filter is needed. I'd imagine that if it was oiled, it would disentegrate and get sucked in the engine.
I adjusted my floats the other day, all were about a mm off. I'm not sure if I'm measuring correctly though.
I'm trying for 22mm from the gasket surface (with no gasket) to the metal bracket that the float's mounted on. can any one varify that this is the correct procedure and distance for my 700?

Right. Paper element filters never get oiled.
As for your float height, I don't know for your model. You do measure from the carb body gasket surface, (no gasket) but some floats are shaped odd and a pic' of the float is needed to show you what part of the float you measure to.
Round floats are measured to the very top of course. If your floats are the odd shaped I'm thinking of, then you measure to the top of the rounded part of it. There's a "higher" part to these floats, but you only measure to the top of the rounded part. Hope this makes sense.
