DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Cooley Clock Knob

Does anyone know what size screw is needed to hold the clock knob in place?

Thanks,

Rich

Tried to remove mine for assessment, but the darned thing said, "I'll strip and/or break the clock's delicate internals".
I think the screw in question (parts fiche #19) is one of those female-threaded-sleeve jobs. Maybe Ed, David, Chuck, et al can confirm (?)

Correct, it is #19 on the parts fiche. Unfortunately, that doesn't tell us anything. L]

Looking at the clock shaft as well as the knob makes me think it is simply a small screw.

Thanks for your attempt, Frank!

Its just a real small thread. Lost one once at the bench and the ensuing panic was as real as someone holding a gun to my head. Very very slowly removed and inspected everything on the bench, swept the garage floor, and then sifted thru the trash can. Eventually a magnet sucked it up from the pile of debris that had been swept up.

I can assure you its just NOT a good day when it goes missing. I dont know the thread and pitch, but I would suggest trying a speedo trip knob screw or maybe an old face plate screw??? trying to think what else has that kind of super small screw.......

What other bikes have clocks that a screw may be tested from???? Or other reset knobs with small screws???

I hope and pray that it is still available from Suzuki because I seriously doubt that you will just find one of these anywhere.
I measure a 1mm thread perhaps as my mic measured 1.38mm on the threads. .30 pitch and about 5mm of thread...

It's been a couple of years since I removed the one from my 80'. I thought I remembered it as just a small, regular screw. I don't recall it looking like the one above. Of course one of them may not be OEM.

These are from a '79 model that was originally purchased by a close friend of mine and only shows 13,000 miles on it so I doubt that it has ever been off except to help you. ;)
