If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

After a great day of riding with my buddies today, on the way home I crashed my bike in a ditch, on a straight stretch of road.
Two things made this happen. The first was that I was tired and should have stopped to stretch and get more alert. The second thing was the fact that this is a deer infested road, and one of the critters ran out in front of me. I didn't hit it, but in the avoidance of it, my front tire ran onto the soft dirt shoulder, which pulled me down the steep grassy ditch at about 50 mph. I was riding it out, and thought I would get it stopped under control before a driveway embankment, but in the braking procedure and the soft ground, my front tire dug in and tossed me. I'm not sure if the bike flipped or not, but from the damage I think it did. My trunk is damaged, my right saddlebag is toast, the rear carrier and backrest were bent up also. My vetter fairing is ruined also, but I have another one of those, so that's not a problem. My forks are twisted, but the triple tree and the frame is fine.
I came out fine, very upset with myself for being so stupid, I've probably got bruises I'll find tommorrow, but I came out of it ok, and I was only 11 miles from home, of course.
Reminder to self: Pull over and wake yourself up when you're tired, idiot!!!

That sounds serious, you didn't get hurt much?
Next time take out the deer, there will be one less for me.

Geez, that stinks. Glad you are OK. Those damn deer are just starting to arrive back in our valley.

Glad you're OK. Bike sounds like it's a bit of a mess though. At least it can be fixed. Crashing just plain sucks!!!

Dan Glad your OK Yhea my first mishap was in the soft shoulder stuff as well about 3 inches of pine needles and way too much FRONT BRAKE, over she went bent forks & the likes. Again glad your ok.

Pat

did you get pictures of the carnage? not that we want to bask in your loss.....just that it is a reminder for the rest of us of "what NOT to do"!

Glad you're O.K.:)

Dan,

Most importantly, we're glad you're okay. Bruises will heal and bikes can be repaired......

Get well soon,
Joe

Glad you are OK Dan, sorry to hear about the bike tho...I have a windjammer i would have GLADLY gotten rid of...er...given to you, but sounds like you have that covered...Deer are wicked creatures..i think they do it on purpose. Almost caught one today myself coming home from BC, came around a blind tight turn goin at a pretty good clip and saw one JUST scampering out of the road...In this case, i think my "loud pipe" DID save my life...

wow man. glad your ok. all i ran into on todays ride was i think a swarm of bees. hope you get yourself and your ride on the rode soon.

If I touched the front brake at all, it was reflex. I don't think I did, I was conciously avoiding the front brake, putting on the rear trying to slide to a stop on the slippery grass when the weight transfer still made the front tire dig in , so I ended up with the carnage anyway. I'll try to get some pictures posted by tonight if I can.

11 miles is a long way to walk !! ;) Glad youre not badly damaged Dan. Hang in there....another "learning experience" to tell the students.

Pictures of the carnage as promised.....

Pictures of the carnage as promised.....

This is it after the crash, I removed the fairing so between my brother-in-law, my friend Fred, and myself we could get it onto the trailer. The reason the motorhome is so high up in the air is because I'm in the middle of removing the old Cummins and replacing it with a new higher HP engine with an intercooled turbine.
