    A note to new registrants...
All new forum registrations must be activated via email before you have full access to the forum.

A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Look at me! I own welding equipment!

The wrenches would have brought $4 each on ebay.

They are pretty worthless for all bikes older than 20 years. This guy was a real piece of work, I emailed him a few times just to pull his chain. He's convinced he's got a gold mine, RARE AND COLLECTIBLE Virago, as if there is such a thing. Just a total moron!!![/QUOTE

I just titled the trippivot GS1260. The licensing peeps ignored the bill of sale and charged me tax on the Old Cars Price Guide value for a #3 bike, which was of course more.

You can argue all you want, but even the fact that we argue about it demonstrates some relevance for KBB and NADA.

And then, like you say, there's government (DMV) and other legal factors (insurance). Cycle World has had a side bar feature in their "Service" questions for a while now about desirable used bikes that quotes KBB every month. Granted, they've yet to feature a bike as old as our GS's, but I think it's valuable for establishing a baseline. And the Blue Book seems to have been spot-on for the three years I've owned and followed the market for my Suzi.

KBB is worthless as far as prices go for our 80's Suzukis. Same thing holds true for other bikes from the 80's.

you may want to look up the statutes in your state.... the person you dealt with may have been wrong.

in texas, if it is over 25 years old, it goes by bill of sale for tax purposes.

this makes sense as a statute because these old bikes and cars are often basket cases when you buy them.

Agree. I just had the PO state on the paperwork that I paid $200 for the bike (I paid $1600.) No questions were asked.

I was walking my dogs last night and stopped to look at this previously mentioned piece of (art?) I can't imagine the owner intended for it to be ridden. Unfortunately nobody was home. I just snapped a few pics.

One example after another of how NOT to weld. There are some FUGLY, WEAK welds in there....

I don't recommend riding that thing (AT ALL) with loose fitting shorts. Likely to have one (OR BOTH) of your nuts sucked into the carbs...
