Cruzinimage pistons Gs1000 Sleeve ?'s

Hello All,

I recently ordered a 1100 big bore kit from cruzinimage. I took it to the machine shop and he said the sleeve would be too thin!!!! he could do it but it he did not recommend it.

DO I need to get a different cylinder? Or should I just have him bore and hone per the specs of the piston?

How much does a Valve job cost? I am being charged 125.00..is that good? They used to charge me 75.00.

I can't say since I have no idea what shape your current jugs are in. Are you going larger just for power or damaged cylinder walls? You might want to get another machinist to take a look at the project. In these air cooled engines I can't see why it being on the thin side would even make a difference. In a water cooled engine yes but these I seriously doubt it.
Another set of jugs might be an option depends on the depth of your pockets. 125$ doesn't sound too terrible as long as it's the entire job. My machinist first question is always, how much do you want to spend???

Cylinders are in great shape! Wish I would have taken it apart before ordering the pistons...but you know what they say "no replacement for displacement" haha. I may send my cylinders to APE...the machine shop wanted to charge 50 dollars a cylinder. I rather have a pro's do it than someone who is not familiar with the bike.

As for the valve job he originally wanted 175.00 but got him to go down to 125.00. They do a great job cleaning and also grind the valves (not sure which parts). I figured since I got such a great deal on my last 2 heads at 75 Each I figures 125.00 was ok.

I gave him the specs from the service manual for the valves but he said he needed valve stem length? Any one know what that should be?

Oh no worries- this is the place for help and info and we are a great community. You can get by with a cross hatch re-hone if those walls are ok.
We can have the discussion on no replacement for displacement another time- LoL
Ah you can try and dig that valve info up online- a service manual for your bike will have it.
Have you been to Bass Cliffs site- find your manual and look- I'm sure it's in there, if not you'll have to pull one or measure a new one.

Depends how big the new pistons are...73mm is easy and safe. 75 would be getting a bit thin IMO. If you want to go really big, get an 1100G barrel as the start point.

The pistons are 73mm....so it sounds like I am good to move forward.

I pulled the valve specs from cliffs site (great place by the way) it just didn't have valve length but Ill check again.

Make sure to tell the machine shop to skim a little off the valve stems when they face them. This is critical since the valves will sit deeper into the head after the seats and valve faces are cleaned up. If you don't do this the shim requirements will shift dramatically toward the thin side of the range. How much to cut is a bit of a guess, but the ultimate idea is to maintain the same valve height as before the valve job, or raise them slightly.

Make certain that the machine shop that bores the cylinders, be it 1000 or 1100 sleeves, re-chamfers the bottom of the bores or you will be hating life trying to install those piston rings.

Personally if you have to tell the machine shop that i would NOT take it there in the first place. Car places and bike places are a HUGE difference. Yes you mite have a favourite guy you go too but rather take it to someone that does it all the time, not just to make money.
