I just recently picked up a 82 gs750 with a 79 gs1000 motor in it, well when i picked up the bike the PO wanted to keep the flatslides he had on it and in turn gave me a set of 750 carbs to use on it, the bike ran on the flatslide, I'm just wondering if i just get a dynojet stage 3 kit (will be running pods due to not having the factory airbox) and rejet them the 750 carbs to run the 1000 motor. I've read all over bassCliffs site and couldn't find anything about re-jetting in the manor, thanks in advance I'll try to answer any questions you guys have

Pictures of the carbs that you now have, the intake manifolds and the intake ports on the 1000 please.

Daniel

You won't find a DJ kit for VM carbs, because VMs don't need them

Just rejet and tune from there

I can get pics of carbs because they are sitting next to me but the bike is at my parents garage 40 mins away, is there something particular you are looking for that I could answer instead of driving? If you need pictures I can drive out there

I ran a set of 32mm cv's on my 1980 GS1000G for a couple of seasons, they worked ok but it didn't have the acceleration that it does with the 34's that belong on it. I
f I remember correctly I had 40 pilot jets and 135 mains with a stock airbox and exhaust, bonus was around 50 miles per gallon , all though I only lostabout 5 miles a gallon going to the 34,s plus better acceleration.

I have the cv carbs off of a 750, not vm's

Well, if you have a 79 1000 "small port" head (which is why he wanted a picture). the CV carbs don't exactly fit

Some members have made them fit by using the 80 1000 intake rubbers, but there is a step down at the port

Ok I will run out there here soon and take some pictures, should I measure anything to be able to tell for sure wether it's a small port or not, basically what should I be looking for to determine if it is a small port head

If the intake manifold is off, the small port head is 27.4mm and the large port head is at 32.0mm roughly on both measurements off the top of my head.
I can go measure a couple to be certain but those should be close.

Daniel

I measured the port in the head, 1 1/8 in or 28ish mm measurements were taken with a junky ruler lol I'll post pics of it when I get home

heres a shot of the engine, ill upload a shot of the intake boots to make sure it has the step down you guys were talking about

heres a shot of the carbs, i have a pic for the other side if need be

they do not, well maybe but it will be a VERY tight fit almost to where ill have to take that inner lip down to get them to fit, not sure what to do, i guess my best bet is to find the right intake boots that will fit the carbs i have

Even with that tiny, itty-bitty picture, I can see that what you have is a small port head.
I got these 32CV carbs from a Kawasaki to work on this one using the stock small port manifolds... (or so I thought?)
Perhaps they are also manifolds from something else?
It had Keihen 33mm Smooth-bores on it when I got it.

Can you measure the outside throat of the intake side of those carbs that he gave you?

I'll have to take a closer look at those manifolds and compare them with the new 28mm Suzuki manifolds that I have tomorrow. :-k

Daniel

ID is 47mm and OD is 52mm on the airbox side, and 38mm OD and 31.5mm ID on motor side, i have super big pics of the previously attached pictures just tell me which ones you want in a big shot

are the big port heads have a bigger intake tube but the 2 hole spacing the same? or would it be better to squeeze in the cv32 into the small port intake tubes?

I have these pic's that show the differences in the two heads/manifolds. ;)

Large port manifold on small port head...

They don't fit.

Even if you tried to MAKE them fit, the O-ring gasket would ride right on the edge of the small port...

I'll try to see if the Kawasaki manifolds will work on the small port heads with the carbs that you have tomorrow if you send me a PM to remind me.

Daniel

awesome that was so much help, so that rules out the bigger manifolds on my small port head, that leaves me to either squeezing in my current cv32 into the current manifolds i have or cut the lip on the current manifolds to help squeeze in the cv32 or buy the vm26's that are suppose to be on there or hoping those kawi manifolds work with the small ports and my kinda large cv32's. decisions decisions decisions... any input on which would be a better choice would be awesome
