A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Cylinder Head Rubber Pads

And speaking of unobtainable rubber parts...

I'd love to find a good/new rubber "grommet, starter motor" (P/N 31271-45001) that seals the notch in the starter cavity, next to the oil distribution cavity. Lots of little parts like these are no longer available.

Those pieces have arrows on them. What is the significance?
Which way are they supposed to point in each application?
Back on top and down on the sides?

Eric

Those are for the ones for my 1100, on the bike they are pointing up, they plug into the side of the cylinder head horizontal fins flat side out (post 9 this thread) there's a slight angle to the wedge though, with the arrows up they would have a tendency to slide back in verses out. Can't believe the ones on my bike (GS1100E) haven't fallen out, there's nothing holding them in except the tight fit and I do find myself pushing them back in a little when I see them not all the way in. The one's for the 1000 go in between the vertical fins on top of the head. Each one used individually and not as a strip like the 1100.

Local Hardware stores stock those as well as your local NAPA store.

Looks like you might have to fabricate that one.

I think that's about the only rubber part that was still good on my E.

I was amazed when I removed it last night.

Besides the '79 GS1000L, what other models use them?
Dale, how 'bout a pic of this grommet, or are you reconditioning it?

Steve, Don't you know me well enough by now? Of course I am... :)

I'll take a picture of it when I get home.

My 750 uses them as well, all the strip ones have long disappeared and the ones in between the head were like...correction were charcoal. I have new ones now and will be installed soon.
