    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I have a 1983 Suzuki GS1100L which I just purchased with 10,500 miles. The bike is in excellent condition but I need some advice! There is adhesive residue on the speedometer glass from the 'break-in decal' when it was new. It's been there for 20 years now and I'm sure it baked in the sun too. Any ideas on how to remove it? Is it a glass or plastic lens that covers the speedometer?

You might try some Goo-Be-Gone. Its great stuff for fresh adhesives and is safe for either plastic or glass (I think its plastic...but not certain). If that doesn't help, Isopropyl alcohol (rubbing) or 80 proof vodka should do the trick. They are tame enough not to harm the plastic or glass...
 
A product called Goo Gone will remove just about any gummy substance you can think of. I -think- the lens is plastic so you might put a dab on the edge to see if it will react, though I've never had a problem using this stuff on plastic. Still, you only have one lens, eh?
 
There is a product call "Goo Be Gone" that I have used in the past. You might want to check to make sure it is safe on plastic as I believe that the cover is plastic. I was going to suggest "Goof Off" but it says that it could damage plastic so that doesn't seem to be an option. Try Home Depot or Lowes to find it.

There is also something called De-Solv-It that would probably do it. Wal-Mart carries it.
 
Hi Joe. Welcome to the GSR! For removing sticky residue from stickers, on chrome, paint, and glass, I've had good luck with regular ol' WD-40. It shouldn't harm plastic, either.

I agree, bad advice! :wink: :lol:

I would use a window cleaner, containing alcohol, to remove the old glue.
WD40 would work too.

BTW, the speedo has a plastic lens.

Thanks to all ... I really appreciate the suggestions! I tried the Goo-Gone but to no avail. I think the adhesive has baked for so many years that it's almost part of the plastic.
Oh well ... guess I'll have to live with it or change the lens.

Hello, I had paint and other crud stuck to my speedo and tach lenses on the bike I'm rebuilding now so I used heavy duty scratch remover made by slip streamer. I bought this a few years ago from the Suzuki dealer It works great and the lenses look new. Hope you have a success in your quest! :)

Does anyone know how to remove that miserable sticker on the back fender that tells suggested tire air pressure? It looks impossible to get rid of........... :cry:
 
Check the medicine cabinet and see if the wife has some of that Avon "Skin so Soft". I don't know what it does for skin but it sure does do a great job with adhesive residue (and makes yur bike smell ohhh so good) Steve

That stuff is kind of spooky. It also makes a good bug repellent. Wonder what else it does.
