degreed cams now having problems

I recently did an upgrade to a kz 650. I put hotter cams and milled the head 25 thous I also have bigger carbs on the bike with dyna s and coils. I also put a new bore as well as ported head and polished. I slotted my stock sprockets by at least a half of a hole mybe a lil bigger but not much.
My question is i cant get the turd to start and was wondering if the cams where just a lil off would this keep the bike from starting? the valves seem to be opening and closing how they are supposed too. I am just lost in the sense the bike has practically a new motor now and it wont start. Also the bike is kick only. Any suggestions is much appreciated! Thanks

Hopefull you got within 1 degree and were not off wildly. On teh GS you can be off an entire tooth and it will still run although somehwat poorly, but it would make you think so it is not really obvious . So yes it should still run even if a few degrees off.
You should make sure that when #1 is on TDC and the timing mark is where the timing should be you can static time time bike. Make sure you are not 180 deg out.

At that point start checking for spark, voltage to the coils, gas.....etc

thanks

thanks

Ya I have a new ignition that just got sent back to me from dyna becasue the other one failed also had the coils tested good strong spark. It seems to be getting gas to the carbs and I am pretty sure that i have the rotor for the dyna s in the right place with the lil dot pointing left of the 1-4 position. I also did the valve clearences to spec any other suggestions. would it be possible that it needs to be pushed started the first time to get running. I am all out of ideas of whats wrong. thanks for the help!

Look for spark. If you degree the cam you should rotate the motor and watch number one cylinder and make sure all the valves are closing and opening at the right time, this should matching the ignition timing marks and the correct firing position..

Also GS's can read and hear and they don't like being called turds.:D

Ya I have also checked the valves and the timing marks they check out. I know gs's don't like to be called turds and i would never call a gs a turd this is a kaw kz so now you know where i am coming from. My gs would never give me problems like this it starts first kick evry time

does any one think it could not be getting enough vaccume from the kick only since the rings haven't seated this is my last thought. It has bigger gpz carbs off a 750 that are accelator pumped. thanks again

If you just put a Dyna S on it have you tried turning the rotor 180 degrees to see if that is the issue? Ray.

ditto on the ign. 180 out, it's quite common. Cams can be waaay out & still start & run reasonably well.

I put the rotor on how the manual said that came with the dyna s should i still try flipping it? thanks for the help!

Tried it and used a lil starting fluid seemed to wanna start. Guess i am gonna hit it again in the morning maybe kick ony was not such a good idea.
