Delkevic 7" Headlight

I ordered one of these as well back on Aug 25 through their Ebay store. Apparently there was a mistake with the auction, and they were actually out of stock when I completed the payment.

They did email me immediately after the auction and offered me a full refund, but gave me the option to wait for the next shipment to arrive. More headlights were on the way, but according to one of the sales support folks the container carrying the products was seized / held by Customs and has been delayed.

I'm currently still waiting for my light to arrive. I figured since finding a lamp elsewhere had been a exercise in futility I may as well wait. The company has been doing a lot of business on Ebay with a 99.9% positive feedback rating, and I can always dispute the charges with my credit card company, so I'm not terribly worried... yet :o

Hmmm...interesting! Thanks for the added info. I had seen the ones they had listed on e-bay, but opted to purchase from their on line store as they just added this light. I was hoping to avoid the dreaded "out of stock" situation by doing this, but I guess I'll see.

Thanks for the heads up

I'll be watching -- I like that headlight a lot. It looks more modern than most. Is it DOT approved? I personally don't care about obscure gubmint regs, but that might explain the holdup in customs. Let us know what happens.

Other sources for headlights include:

Fly-n-Cycle (I've ordered other stuff from them before and was happy):
http://www.flyncycle.com/Side_Mount_s/1466.htm

Cycle Recycle II -- this headlight is what's on my GS850. However, the shell is $60 and the lamp is another $35:

There's a bigger picture here from the ebay auction page, and it looks like there is a stamping "DOT" in the lower left side, but I guess it's anyone's call really.

Thanks for the links Brian.

If this transaction falls through, I'll definitely be heading to one of those places!

I inquired to Delkevic before my purchase regarding its DOT legality, and was insured its 100% legal, and marked this way. Raven is right as well, its clearly visible on the lens in the picture.

I just like the classic look of it!

I e-mailed them this morning regarding my order, so hopefully I'll get a speedy response.

I ordered some 7" diamond cut headlights off ebay to replace my sealed 7" headlight. I am hoping they are plug and play, but the ones I ordered have a cap that goes over the bulb vs this headlight to help prevent blinding other drivers. Also, they only cost $35 with shipping. I used lights like this for my old truck and they worked great.

I got this in my inbox this afternoon:

I?ve got a container out front this morning. I will be headed out there after lunch to start unloading. If I can?t get them back out the door today it will probably be shipped out tomorrow!

So, hopefully we'll have good news in a bit

Awesome! I received a similar response today too!

Can't wait to get it now!!

We'll have to compare notes once we have them in hand!

Thanks!

Update - mine is out for delivery this morning, so I should have it when I get off work today. Assuming the UPS man does his job, I'll get some pics up tonight. :)

It's here, it's here!

http://ravensys.net/sa/lamp/IMG_0357.JPG

Securely packed for the trip, it came in it's own bubble wrap, inside a small box, inside a big box.

http://ravensys.net/sa/lamp/IMG_0361.JPG

Once out of the packaging, you can clearly see "DOT" and "MOTORCYCLE" on the lens, the metal bushings in the mount holes, the two screws holding the lens assembly onto the bucket, and one of the adjustment screws.

http://ravensys.net/sa/lamp/IMG_0363.JPG

The bucket is plastic, as is the lens, and the chromed pieces are metal. The bulb itself is from... well, I dunno who made it, it's got Chinese lettering stamped on it, but I have a nice Silverstar waiting to slide in there.

http://ravensys.net/sa/lamp/IMG_0365.JPG

After removing the two external screws, the lens slides out, and you can see the back of the assembly and the left/right pivot adjustments

http://ravensys.net/sa/lamp/IMG_0367.JPG

The bulb retainer seems pretty solid, and the back of the reflector is marked with a Stanley part number.

Gonna change out of my work shoes and shirt and go put it on in a bit, more to come :)

Nice pics!

I was kind of concerned about the possibility of plastic lens material, but It looks pretty stout. I guess if it hazes too bad over time it could be swapped out for a glass h4 compatible version. But for the price it looks pretty nice.

Thanks for the update, I can't wait to see it mounted!:)

So before I go further, this is why I bought this kit in the first place.

www.ravensys.net/sa/lamp/IMG_0374.JPG

Yeah, that looks pretty awesome, doesn't it. Oh, but it gets better...

www.ravensys.net/sa/lamp/IMG_0375.JPG

Yes, that really is duct tape, on the back of an ancient cloudy glass lens, with no bulb retainer, shoved into a Vetter bucket, with no adjustment points.

Don't ask me how the PO saw anything at night, 'cause each time I took it to work in the early pre-dawn morning I was driving by braille. Don't ask me how it passed inspection either. :-\\\

Anyway, moving on! Out with the old, and in with the new...

http://www.ravensys.net/sa/lamp/IMG_0377.JPG

So as you may have noticed, the ears on my tree are bent at a slight angle, and don't quite sit flush on the bucket. This means that the bucket doesn't sit 100% correctly. I need to talk the ears into moving with a large pair of channel locks or something at some point, but in the meantime I can live with it like this. The turn signal looks more droopy than it really is, and it's not too bad looking from a few feet away.

I suspect I'll be able to actually see the road now.

So overall, my thoughts? It's pretty lightweight - UPS put the entire package at about 3.5 lbs - but it doesn't feel "cheap", if you know what I mean. Fit and finish is pretty good for a universal kit.

I'd have preferred a glass lens, but the plastic lens it came with seems pretty sturdy. For $72, I can't really complain since it came 100% ready to go out of the box with everything except the wire harness.

Now I know, some people are thinking "but Jason, you ordered this thing 3 weeks ago, what gives, man?" It's completely true, the wait time for my headlamp was pretty funky. To their credit, Delkevic contacted me as soon as they realized they were out of stock, and immediately offered me 100% of my money back. I elected to wait since I needed the lamp anyway and didn't feel like paying more for some secondhand 20 year old assembly.

It's unfortunate that the shipment was delayed by Customs, but once Delkevic learned the shipment was delayed, they were immediately forthcoming and honest with me. That counts for a lot in my book, and after working in the automotive and heavy truck industry, and now the IT industry, I know that sometimes crap just happens. It's how the company handles themselves in a situation like this that makes all the difference, and Delkevic did right by me. I'm happy with it :)

Very nice install and review Jason!

I suspected the ears would need a bit of persuasion, but heck the headlight I have now has spacers on each side because its only a 5-3/4".

I was more concerned about the rear clearance where the cables are routed, but it looks like there is plenty of room.

I'd be interested to see the actual difference in lighting on the road at night.

All in all, looks like a great light for the price!

Thanks again Jason!!:D

Got my light today!

Got my light today!

Well...my light finally arrived today on the brown truck.

I ditto all of Jason's review for the most part.

It really is a good light for the money. It looks very much like a factory housing, and the black and chrome go well together.

Quality, fit and finish is very good. No extra flashing on molded parts, and everything fit together perfectly. There is plenty of room in the new bucket for the plugs and wire that inhabited the old bucket.

I too had to bend the ears a bit, but it was very minimal, and looks fine.

Overall a fantastic light! I'll post updates if any of this changes with time, but I don't foresee any issues.

I'll upload some pics a bit later...I promise:D I can't believe how amazing it looks! I think it totally changes the look of my bike!

I'd recommend it to anyone.

Jeff (teet)

Oooh, that's purdy!

I like the modern "faceted" look!

Anyone know where one might find just the headlamp bit for a reasonable sum? Most places I've seen want about $100 for something like that.

Glad you got yours alright. I'm chaning my headlight to a 7" round, but I was warry of getting a light with the "Euro look" reflector like that and especially one off ebay. I had a pair on my car and I could stand the brightness (or lack there of). I ended up getting mine from Aztec8 though because I could get the mounts and all at the same time. I've heard okay things about them and they claim DOT approval. I'll see how it is when it gets here on Friday.

Oh btw, if you ever want to go to dual lights, the lights off a Buell Ulysses are suppose to be really good and are pretty cheap.
