A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I was attempting to synch my carbs today and my "old" carb stix that I have not used for several years now had a separation of mercury and some of it went through the hoses and maybe into the carbs..don't know that for sure.
Question is, what must I now do if indeed some mercury got inside the carbs? Does it cause damage to anything or is it just an inconvenience?
I feel my bench synch was much closer than I am now but without a carb stick, I have to wait for some answers and perhaps a new synchronizing tool.
Thanks,

Larry

I don't think the mercury will hurt anything. Your engine isn't the first to suck on some Hg.

BTW, I bought some mercury off ebay a month or so ago. I doubt he is supposed to sell the stuff but I was greatful to get it.:)

After thinking about this for a while, I realized that the mercury would enter the engine instead of the carbs. Guess I just panicked. Sorry.
I think I would rather use some other device besides mercury. I thought maybe some other balancer would work as well or even better?? Don't really know for sure.
All I know is that I need to somehow perform some sort of bench synch with the carbs still on the bike just to have a good starting point again. Is this possible?

I know someone who did the same thing and it had no effect on the engine but it did produce some serious fumes that made him ill.

I have the mess cleaned up and the garage doors are open for the night with a fan running to help get the air cleared. I could not smell anything but I have been told the vapors can do some serious damage to people and pets.

Can I still use my carb stix? There wasn't that much mercury that escaped.

Can I still use my carb stix?
If there is still enough mercury to cover the bottoms of all the tubes when there is a vacuum being drawn, you should have no problem.

Where are you? I know where there is some mercury, but it can't be shipped.
