    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

difference in OEM head gaskets

I was about to install the head on my 750/850 conversion and The new OEM gasket is totally different from the one that was originally on it. There are no o rings incorporated in the new gasket and the opening for the cam chain is smaller leaving no room for the square oring.The part # I used is 11141-49410 but I don't think it will work.
 
Suzuki has redesigned and updated the 850 (and 8V 750) head gasket several times over the years, hence the updated part number. (The one you posted is correct.)

I do not have direct experience with these new gaskets, but I know others have been very happy with them.

Perhaps someone will come along shortly to allay your fears, but I'd say go ahead and install it -- it'll be fine.
 
What about the square oring? Put it above the gasket, below the gasket or leave it out? As you can see, the opening is not large enuff for the oring to pass thru the gasket.
 
IIRC 'from what I've read' you don't use the o-ring with the small opening style head gasket.

that should be a easy one to search out.

It looks like the multilayer steel gasket I used on my last 850 engine. I didn't fit the oblong rubber ring because it is designed to fit inside the original gasket, and would cause a high load area if fitted under the MLS replacement. I used some high temperature Permatex sealant in that groove and haven't had any sealing issues, at 10.5 -1 CR.

Make sure that your sealing surfaces are clean and true, lube the stud threads, and torque progressively to 30ft lbs. After a few heat cycles, re-torque and forget it. The re-torque on MLS head gaskets is only needed to account for crushing/settling of the composite base gasket material.
 
That gasket is for the GS1100G model heads. If you check the bore size of the gasket you will see that it is made to fit a 72mm bore. You need a 69mm bore part # 11141-49004. The 1100 shaft drive cylinder does not have an o ring groove around the cam chain tunnel. Dar

11141-49004 has been superceeded by 11141-49410. The new gasket makes use of the square O-ring obsolete. Yes, the bore holes are oversized for an 850, but there is no consequence in this, or at least Suzuki is fine with it so I don't think we should be concern.
 
Ed is right. I used an 1100G gasket to match the 71 mm bores on my 894 cc engine. 1100G gasket bores are 73 mm.
