If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Besides the different valve cover and cylinder head looks,
are the cylinder and head from an '83 capable of being used on a '81 block?
What modifications, if any, have to be done to the base gasket and any oiling ports?
Are the stud holes even in the same locations?

TIA,

Daniel

It might work since the stroke is the same on the two engines, no definite answer though. The '83 was a more compact and lighter engine so I would just do a whole swap if I were to do it.

I've never physically tried it but having been inside both I seriously doubt they heads on them are swappable. I don't even think the studs would match up.

Hmm
That 83 motor was the prelude to the 1150 motor which used the same cases as the 1100 motors. I wonder of the cases are the same between the different years 750s?

83 750 cases are shorter, lighter and surprisingly not narrower than the earlier gen 750.From the 83 Cycle Canada test of it back in the day it a pretty complete redo with nor very much in common with the previous engine.

No part numbers for the two just pic's. The '83 looks longer front to back and narrower... (might have these pic's backwards)

Gasket part numbers:

1980-81 Base GASKET,CYLINDER
11241-45401-H17 (replaces 11241-45400)

1983 Base GASKET CYLINDER
11241-31305 (replaces 11241-31990)

1980-81 Head GASKET
11141-45410 (replaces 11141-45401)

1983 Head GASKET
11141-31302 (replaces 11141-31301)

Without having both gaskets in hand to compare or both engines in hand,
perhaps not. :(

Maybe soon though. ;)

i think the jugs will fit i read it somewhere but not positive, as long as the bore n stroke are same, the bolt pattern are same i almost bought a 80-81 for my 83 but i didnt like the, wide fin design, i also seen a jug on a 83/84? ,but i cant be sure if the cases were 83 though,i think it was a overseas gsx with the older jug on it

the 83 motor shares very similar dimensions to the gsxr oil cooled motors to which it was the prelude. pretty sure they arent swappable. the earlier ones were longer and im sure the port spacing was different.

never tried it though. i just remember having one of each on a bench at some point.
