A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Does This Oil Look Funny?

Wow, hopefully it is all from something easily replaced, like a water pump. And I see Yamaha is still using the same oil level sensor from nearly 40 years ago. More pics please when you find the failed part.

The ground up plastic is from the cam chain guides, primarily the one on the back side of the motor that the tensioner pushes against. I installed the tensioner incorrectly making the chain too tight which caused the chain the grind the guide down. The guide is basically metal inside with plastic surrounding it. It did get into the metal which I'm hoping is what the metal shavings are from. I've already replaced both guides. The chain thankfully is still in good shape. I WAS thinking about flushing the engine but I would think that has to be done with the pan on and the engine running, no?

I agree about the level of support at FZ1OA. I may do what you suggest. I haven't taken the pump off yet. I got tired after removing the pan last night. I'm expecting to find it full of debris.

I wouldn't waste oil by just pouring it down the cam chain tunnel. Buy a gallon of Supertech diesel from Walmart and take the bike for a nice ride then come home and dump it. If the oil looks brown do it again.

No I'm on my back. No lift available in my garage.
It's amazing how the grease comes off using Fast Orange hand cleaner to scrub it.

A trick I learned with a GS that the oil screen bolts were stripped was to (carefully) lay the bike over on its side with a tire or something to cushion it. MUCH better access to the bottom.....

If you would see that on a Goldwing -- Head gasket time !

I am not cure of your bikes design - but it is surly water in the oil

A GL1200 I had once was the place I learned this lesson.

Good Luck

Thanks Carl. The water pump and oil pump on the FZ1 are housed in the same unit, only separated by two seals. If these seals leak, coolant gets in the oil. It's a known issue and where I'm looking before pulling a head. Especially since I just got the top end buttoned back up yesterday.

You think I'm funny? In what way.
also why did it settle out with a clear layer on top? More than water going on. Water being denser than petroleum.
