A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Finally got the carbs all cleaned up. After dipping them, I then gave them a wash in a dish detergent bath. Now I have to order the gaskets, and o-ring set. Can't wait to get them back in. I cleaned the PODs yesterday. After this, I still have to rebuild the front calipers, and replace the fork seals. Hopefully after that, I then will just ride the damn thing the rest of the summer. :D

Looks good,

You planing to polish #2 and #3 right?

Yea I know the drudgery and all.

That might be stock... some bikes had polished outer bowls & caps only with a clearcoat. I had some like that on one of my bikes.

Dan :)

Well i would be tempted to either:
  1. polish the inside ones so they look like chrome
  2. get them chromed.
Option #1 is cheaper,:p

Carbs look great except for the screws. I trust they are going to get replaced.;)

There are ALOT more differences than the slides. The actuator arms are completely different. The float bowls are different. double check again. If you HAVE 29s, you got a killer deal from someone who didnt know wtf he had. Those carbs are worth 3-500 bucks pretty easy.

A clean set of VM29's will fetch $500+ on ebay. Renobruce polished up a set and painted the bodies and he sold them for over $1000.

NICE! I havent been tracking prices on them, as im not particularly interested in messing with them on anything that i have. Ive seen 33 smoothies go for around 3-500 without bating an eyelash so i figured prolly bout the same. Guess not! Even bigger score if thats what they are man!

Now that I think about it, the guy who sold me the bike probably swapped carbs with his other 78 GS1000. When I purchased the bike he told me to look for a stock air box. I'm guessing he prefered the stock setup.

I sold the 33 smoothbores from my wrecked GS1150E (the insurance adjuster let me take them and the pods off before they took it away to be crushed) for $520 on ebay four years ago. A guy restoring a KZ1000 bought them.

I think the prices are probably higher now, especially for those insane KZ guys.....

Slip,

The VM O ring set from cycleorings.com does not fit the smoothbores

I think that Ed (Nessism) has them in bulk.

open them up and post what your settings are in them, the 29 setting's seem to be all over the board and it's good to get as much info as we can about the 29's and what works for everyone.

Hey Slip, be advised that those carbs do not have a vacuum port to open up the automatic petcock. Dar
