    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

dropped a shim bucket now it doesn't turn freely

If anyone has a spare shim bucket for a 550 (I think all shim buckets are the same for all GS motors, actually).

I dropped one and it hit the concrete floor and seems to have gone out of shape. I managed to insert it but its not spinning easily in the head, even after I oiled it.
 
I've got a bunch 'o shim buckets for GS850 engines -- check the part numbers to make sure they're the same, then PM a mailing address and I'll pick out a nice one and send it to you.

It's not worth charging -- just pass on the favor someday to someone else. :-D

Rock hard steel shouldnt have been worried about little old concrete. When you installed it was it spotless? Also after you installed with all the oil did you turn the engine over to squeeze the exess oil out from under the shim to get the right clearance.
 
Did you pray to the GS gods (Shaftium, Chainibus, Statorad, Iki Iki Rectifier, SeeVee, Vay-Eem and Pushi Starti) and offer a burnt offering of Sea Foam and knuckle skin before you started your work?

If not, then you have angered the gods. You are spiritually unclean, and must remain outside of the campsite until sundown. Their ways are mysterious and their retribution swift.

You must quell their anger, mortal, for they hold a grudge.

Yea, I did all that stuff. This was my third top end strip down. Actually the buckets are pretty thin steel. The tops are thick but the sides are thin. The wells which they slide into are pretty small tolerance too.
 
might want to check the tappet bores for scratches. maybe the bucket got a rough spot.
