    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Dumb questions: carbs and battery

1) When people say 2.5 turns for the pilot screw, do they mean 2.5 turns after loose threading, or 2.5 turns out from being tightly threaded?

2) is it ok to use a impact hammer to get the intake boot screws off? mine seem to be pretty stuck.

3) how long should a battery tender junior take to charge a battery?

Turn the screw in until it lightly bottoms out, and then open it up 2.5 turns from there.

To get the boots off an impact driver works well. Add a long extension, or two, or three, until you can get a clear angle at the screws.

mine's been charging for like a day or two now, and i filled it up with distilled water too. i guess that means i should get a new battery, eh?

i just have the alligator clips attached to the bracket terminals on the battery. i took out the screws/nuts

The responses I've been getting on idle screw settings is approximately 2.5 turns out after lightly bottoming out. If you're having trouble keeping the bike idling, maybe try a few different positions such as 1.5 and 3.5 turns.

Are you seeing continuous bubbling in each cell after overnight charging, while still being charged? If not, a new battery may be the next purchase.

If you want to charge it properly you need to work out the ampage of the battery, the output of the charger (which tells you how mant amps/hour it charges) and it will tell you how long it takes. Once fully charged it will start having the opposite effect and begin to drain the battery, so it is important to figure this out before you start. If a battery has been drained fully too many times then deposits start to form on the plates, you can buy really good chargers that can help recondition batteries by charging them under higher voltage, plus they stop charging when the bettery is full and switch over to trickle charge. New batteries aren't that expensive either ;)
