DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Dyna S DS3-1 Doesn't Fit?

Hello everyone,

I ordered a Dyna S -- DS3-1 for my 1980 GS 550L
Today I tried to install it but found that it won't fit.
My issue is that the Dyna has the two black pickups on it, and on those pickups are two black rectangles that protrude slightly.
I checked the info on the link I found when I was searching the forum

http://bwringer.com/gs/tdc.html

My ignition system looks like the second photo but my rotor doesn't look like that, instead mine has two lobes, one on each side opposite eachother. One side is bare, the other has two little strips which I assume are the magnets to transmit the signal.

Anyone else run into this problem? I bought the bike AS IS, it was not running.

I just noticed in the kit there is part that looks like a replacement rotor. Is that what I'm doing wrong?

Not sure what setup your bike has, but I know the dyna s needs the old style mechanical advance unit, as opposed to the electronic advance on later bikes. Not sure if thats your issue, just a thought, hope it helps!
good luck and welcome to the GSR! You are in the right place.:)

The Dyna Rotor has no protrusions on it at all.... You need to connect it to the old advance unit. You may need to make a little spacer for the end. I used Nylon washers (you may have got an Aluminum one in your box but I didn't) :)

Yeah that's totally the issue. Thanks for the link, I definitely will use that as a reference if I get hung up. The problem is my brother took back the garage, so now I'm in the shed. Usually I would lay all the parts from the kit out on the floor and then start, but there's no room out there. So let that be a lesson to everyone, always look at what's in the box and make sure it's all there ;)

Thanks again everyone, with the new battery and the Dyna stuff going on later today, I should have her running for the first time this afternoon.
