DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Dyna S question

Want to upgrade my ignition system to a Dyna as my igniter is toast. It's an 81 550T with the KD electronic ignition. Does anyone know which Dyna S is applicable? I'm a bit confused on say Z1's site as they only reference the KD or ND points ignition systems and can't seem to find the answer on the web, thank you.

What makes you say yours is KD? I think all the KD's were points type. My understanding is you will need the ND type.

Igniter says Kokusan on it and the manual says "All 1980 and later models are fitted with a Kokusan transistorized ignition system", this is whats confusing to me as it still has the mechanical advance but the KD electronic system so was unsure of which Dyna is the one

1980-82 GS550s with electronic ignition use the DS3-2. You'll likely find that the included spacer is a bit too thick. You need a spacer to keep the included rotor from coming off the mechanical advance, but with the included spacer the rotor is not free to turn independently of the crank when the crank bolt is tightened down (verify that before you start modifying stuff). The rotor + spacer is about 0.6-0.8mm too tall. You can try to find a thinner spacer of the correct diameter, sand down the spacer, or sand down the top of the rotor.

Thanks very much for the replies, will go the DS3-2 route. And thanks for the heads up on the spacer Mike, will look to modify for fit as needed.

My Igniter didn't like 16.8 volts being put to it from a faulty R/R

Ended up just sanding the spacer down, worked good. Checked resistance on coil primary and secondaries, were all within spec but spark on #1 and #3 seemed a bit weak. Installed 2 dyna 3.0 green coils and wow, now that is some kinda spark. Did coil relay mod as well, only had .4 volt drop since I had already gone through all connections but figured since I was in there why not.
