Just finished a carb cleaning and rebuild. My red bike was running way too rich- the problem from what I can tell were the rubber plugs for the pilot jets- they were shriveled and not sealing, so I replaced them with a set from Z1 Enterprises. I had added a K&N OEM replacement filter, so I thought I'd try the DJ Stage 1 kit- it is recommended for either a K&N stock replacement, pods, or a high performance exhaust.
I used the Harbor Freight ultrasonic cleaner that has been posted elsewhere on the forum. The carbs were also cleaned per the step-by-step instructions elsewhere on the forum. I also used new orings from cycleoring.com- highly recommend.
The worst part of the job were the snap rings in the slides. I used a small pair of needle nose pliers to get them in and out. I used the default clip settings and the recommended 114 jets- stock were 115. The instructions call for the drilling of the small hole in the slides, so I did this.
After getting everything back together, I bench synched them and reinstalled them. They worked far better than before, and the power level was improved in the mid and top range- but they were messed up so it was not much of a benchmark to start with. I need to run a tank of gas through to see how well the mileage does.
