A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

WB directly measures AFR at any speed rpm throttle opening.it does have a dynamic response and does require calibration.

After using a wbo2, I can't even imagine how plug chops are anything but the crudest form of tuning.
I could not agree more. I come from the automotive world, where I use my wideband for many things. When I first heard of plug chops, I nearly choked.

A wideband is an 02 sensor with a data collector attached. Your automobile has at least 2 02 sensors. One in front of the catalytic converter. It is used by the engine computer to make small adjustments to the fuel injectors to dial them in for maximum efficiency. The other is behind the cat and is used by the computer to judge cat health. They are called narrow band 02 sensors because their voltage range is very small.
A wideband is a special 02 sensor with a very wide voltage, hence wideband. It is used to adjust the Air-to-Fuel-Ratio, or AFR.
A very popular brand is Innovate. I use an LM-1, which is a portable unit. Posplayr uses one that stays on his bike.
Here is some reading on what they do, just pick a thread and start reading.

Btw, my LM-2 and lma -3 setup was a temporary install. What I found is that to get a proper tune, I had to find a long uphill so that I could maintain semi constant conditions at different throttle settings. Before that, I tried the factory pro method of winding out to deadline as not working well. Running up through the gears on flat road with a mildly tuned 1166 is just too dynamic.

One of the other members here told me that the tell tail for proper main was that (IIRC)the afr would rise as you went past redline. No way to see that with a plug chop.

The variable in that, Jim, is the fact that we are running CV carbs. The reason the long uphill worked is because it allowed the slide to catch up to the butterfly valve. IMHO.
Just a thought.

Tom that is exactly the point how are you going to get a proper afr reading when you are popping through gears every 3 seconds? With the up hill load the slide to get to a semi constant level which you can see as a leveling of the afr at a constant throttle position.
If you have a 40-50 hp motor you can maybe get to a slow acceleration at 80 mph but with 130+. ( at crank) no dice.
