A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Hi, woodside. I thought you in UK only got the GSX 400 model (it has square cam end covers) but apparently I am wrong unless someone brought that over from somewhere else...oh well, this who-got-what-where is not as useful as knowing how to fix it!

Yes, many parts are available for that bike. You will find yourself looking at American sites mostly but I think you will find closer Euro sites too.
You can go here for instance
https://www.cmsnl.com/suzuki-gs450_model13427/

Yes, the starters often stick after sitting around. Taking it out and taking it apart and putting it back together often does it. You will want to remove the cam-chain tensioner to get the starter out I think (I havethe very similar but not exactly so-GSX400E) You can find brush assemblies online if you find they are worn...

You will want a manual...Likely Haynes is the one you will see most often thereabouts? but it is really for the GSX 400s with a mere addendum for 450s...Even so, grab it if cheap because chassis, body carbs and much more are very very similar in both engine sizes..
But you can find a specific Clymer manual for 450s here at BassCliff's site...it's the 80mb download "400-450 77-87".
MUCH else pertinent there too

The 450 is one of the most common of all GS bikes in the USA. They made them for a lot of years so parts availability is good for a 38 year old bike. I'm not sure about all that in the UK though, although I'm pretty sure you won't have problems finding basic parts.

cheers guys
i am told these were in the uk back in the 80's and is a E01
but it is scarce over here...
i have just come in from the garage and yes i need to get the starter out...
i tried everyway possible and came to the conclusion the chain adjuster needs to come off...
any tips or is it as simple as the 2 10mm bolts...
the motor wont spin at all not even with 12v direct onto the back of it...

cheers for the replys

Nice bike mate
I'm a complete novice With bike and we got the cam chain tensioner out and the starter out and all back together and working on a gsx250e ....with the use of the links to bike cliffs site and the manuals downloaded from there
you have come to the right place - the guys on here and resources available are awesome

my local Suzuki dealer had new parts o rings seals and brushes cheaper than eBay and all is still going well
best of luck
