A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

i have set the engine idle on my '83 GS450E to 1100 RPMs via the idle adjuster between the carbs. sometimes when i am idling at a light the bike will hod idle at around 3K... then pop back down to 1100 after a few seconds.

even weirder, i SWEAR that i feel slight 'taps' through the bike's frame as the idle falls back down; one 'tap' and the idle moves from 3K to 2500 RPMs, quickly followed by a second 'tap' and the idle drops down to 1100 RPMs and stays put.

the bike has around 24K on the clock and runs great. i have been riding it about a month since replacing oodles of parts, and i am not sure of the history of the machine before my ownership.

ok! i thoroughly enjoy taking all that airbox stuff off of there so i'll order up some parts and replace those pipes. looks like about $19 ea from bikebandit. thank you sir!

Not the carb boots, the large O-rings between the head and the boots. Of course, replace the boots as well if they are hard and cracked.

I have not looked up your particular bike, but the o-rings are typically just under $2 each. As Nessism said, check the boots when you take them off. They should be soft and pliable. If they are hard, it won't be long before they are brittle, too.

Go ahead and get the new boots (if needed), then enjoy them until they go bad in another 24 years or so. 8-[

i replaced the o-rings today. well, i think you *could* call them o-rings; they were more of a hard plastic ring that broke in pieces when i pryed them, unwillingly, out of their recesses. been a while, i believe

but the new ones are installed and the bike holds idle perfectly. thanks, as always

I love it when someone heeds advice and then lets us know the results.
Way to go.\\:D/
