    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

engine longevity?

Does increasing the engine performance from stock decrease engine life? Including just the minimum of 4 into 1, jet kit, and pod filters, but I am mostly wondering about mild big bore kits?

AS long as the build is within the engines tolerance, and your not beating it to death when you ride, there is no reason that a mild build-up should not last as long or longer than stock. :twisted:
 
Still takes the same amount of power to drag the bike down the road at a set speed, stock or modded.
depending on what is done, a modified engine can last longer, depending on what has been done.
you can ballance and blue print a stock engine using premium after market gaskets and replacement parts and have a engine that will last way longer than stock.
how long a engine last depends on how it is used, and cared for.
 
All the above is good advice. A mild big bore piston kit will create a little more heat if ridden harder. If you plan to use the extra power often, you should consider an oil cooler. If you ride the bike "normally" and just open it up for a quick blast now and then, I don't feel the cooler is a must.
That's how I ride my 1000 with similar mod's and I had over 100,000 miles with no problems. I'd like to suggest another good mod: for a good compromise between horsepower and torque, get some slotted cam sprockets and set your cam timing to 106 degrees each. This will give you the widest powerband and overall best performance without sacrificing ANY reliability.
The biggest threat to engine life with these mod's is a poor job of re-jetting. Don't just do like some have and install the jet kit set at the "base settings". Base settings are commonly way off. Test and do what the plugs say to. There's lots of help here if you have trouble.
