A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

And it makes me nervous :(

It's coming from the left case cover, right here:

If I touch it, I can feel the vibration.

Please someone tell me it's not a major issue.

It seems to be worse after the engine comes down from a rev.

Take off the cover an look.
Its not like a rectal exam its just a few mechanical fasteners.

The rotor could be loose ?? Take the cover off and have a look!
You will have to take the crash bars off.

I plan to do that for sure, I just didn't know if someone knew right off the bat. What is in there? I've never had one of these engines apart. What gasket would I need if I wanted to take the cover off?

Rotor could be loose, stator bolts could be loose, starter clutch bolts loose, magnet becoming delaminated. Thats about all the major stuff i can think of that could be wrong..if anything.

Hi,

That's the stator side of the engine. Have a look at my stator replacement guide to get an idea of what's involved.

Thank you for your indulgence,

BassCliff

OK good, that all sounds pretty easy to repair. I was afraid of lower engine damage or something.

One of my favorite domains on the net, thanks BassCliff :)

Just be aware that there is oil behind that cover. You can drain the oil if you want, but you can also tip the bike to the right by putting a 2x4 under the left foot of the centerstand. The bike is still very stable in that stance.

Hi,

I've never bothered with leaning my bike to the right. I've always replaced the stator when the bike is on the center stand. There will be a couple teaspoons of oil that you should catch when you take off the cover.

Thank you for your indulgence,

BassCliff

Im going with youn Cliff...its only a little bit that a shop rag will take care of easily.

I don't have a center stand, lol. Us young whipper snappers don't like 'em ;)

I do plan on getting a bike stand for this sort of thing though.

Just lean to right side against something solid- post, garage door frame, etc- block wheels so it don't move when you're cursing the stator cover screws, wait 5 ninutes, and you won't see any oil.

What ever it is it will go boom if you dont get to it and fix it. This isn't an area you can ignore.

Got really busy and just now gotten around to this.

This is what I found.

I really really detest whoever owned this bike before me.

It was missing one, and the other two are rounded off AND cross threaded...

Would it be easier to replace the side cover, or maybe tap those out?

I have a winch going to the ceiling of the garage...that's MY center-stand, lol.

No one has any input?

I'm going to take out those screws and maybe getting some hex head cblts to fit in there instead, and get a tap and chase those threads, hopefully I can clean them up.
