    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Engine Rebuild?

Im thinking rebuilding my engine, its really old, and i think its time to give it some medicine. First, my knowledge on an engine rebuild are very vague. My idea is that they rip the thing apart, make it all shiny and replace what they can. Is that pretty much the jist of it? I cannot seem to find any rebuild kits for an old bike like ours. How did you guys do it? One step at a time? or can you find a kit and order it? any help would be much appreciated.


PS. I was riding the good 'ol GS today, and im cruising at about 65 km/h, but at about 4000-5000 rpm's, while cruising, the bike has little jumps, then sags, then jumps. IF you were riding behind me you wouldnt be able to see the movements. But it seems like its sick or something. Any ideas on whats wrong my my loyal steed?
 
There is no such thing as an engine kit for our bikes, the best thing to do is get a parts CD/ microfisch for your bike. It make it a lot easier to order part There is still alot available from Suzuki but sometime the parts people tell you otherwise because they don't want to look. As for the jumping I would take a good look at the sprockets and the chain. Next I would Clean the carbs, clean the fuel tank clean/repair the petcock and make sure to install a MC type fuel filter. Unless you're going for increased performance, rebuilding your engine consists of disassembling the engine, measuring the wear to the engine components & comparing them to factory specifications and wear limits. You then replace the parts that are at/beyond wear limits, bringing your engine back to original specifications.
You may have to rebore the cylinders if they are out of round and replace the pistons and also replace various seals & gaskets as required.
That's it, easy as pie!
Try what SqDancerLynn1 said first before geting into it too far.
