DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Cork gasket might work as a temp fix. . I'd let the buyer know what you did. The main will have a number on it. Not sure what. Perhaps one of the guys who owns a 1000 will have that info. You will need one or two steps up from stock mains to make it run right with pods.

You will get more cash for a bike that runs and idles, that you will if it still has issues.
The po may have even installed a dynojet kit. Look at the needles to see of they are adjustable.

Stock exhaust with pods.
My 1000's with CV carb's like 122.5 main jets but, I ride from 4,000-10,000 feet.
My 1200G likes 125 mains.
My 850G needed 117.5's.

115's were stock on the 850 and 1000's.

I looked at the carb spects page on basscliffs webpage and it rates the stock jet at 115, the jets that I have. What should I use, larger and would local shops or Suzuki dealers keep these in stock. I might be able to get something from my mech. if I can reach him. Any suggestions? And could this be my headache?

The jets say 115. Is that stock or what I should have?

That's stock. Either find a stock air box, or re-jet. You may find that the pods ARE your air leak! Or. .. you could spend the cash and put a dynojet kit in them and fall in love with the bike.

Try the 122.5's first. If it is still lean, install 125's.
Get your main jets from Z1 enterprises. IIRC, they are about $2.00 each from them.
Give them a call in the morning. ;)
I still think that you have more problems like fuel flow from the tank and vacuum leaks at the manifolds.
What is the float height and do the float seats work correctly? (do the springs on the needles work on all of them?)

Daniel

Hey, I wouldn't leave the gaskets on perminately, I just wanted to be able to try something tonight to solve the problem. Well now I see I have a jetting problem. Looks like thats all I can do tonight. Whoops, its tomorrow already, here in Mickey land. So I'll let my fingers do the walking and see if I can find some jets around town during work. At least its finally pay day. I'll check for anymore posts in the morn. before work. Thanks again guys, yall have a good one.

Rick

Jets are only part of the problem when using pods. The stock needles are not designed to feed enough fuel for the additional air flow pods provide.
Please either find an airbox for the bike or purchase and install a dynojet stage 3 kit. The needles included in the kit are designed for pod filter intake set ups.
Otherwise the bike will NOT run to it's potential and you'll likely become frustrated quickly with trying to tune it.

Not that it has anything to do with the surging (that's lean from incorrect jetting or an air leak, or both), but the first thing you should do before tuning is check/adjust your valves.

Certainly adjust the valves. I agree that installing a dynojet kit is a good move too. Once tuned correctly, you may find that you want to keep the bike.

Tuned right, these bikes will make any ride in Disney seem tame.

I used to ride in Orlando, just have to make sure you have a place to hide and cover during those awesome summer flash storms. I miss those, we get lightning storms here in the pacific north west maybe twice a year. Even then we get like four or five good flashes in the whole storm.

Thanks for the info, I'll see if I can get the dyno jet kit. I've heard of that, hopefully I can find it locally. I'll defenitly make sure to check the valves, I already checked out the tutorial, but I don't have the tool or shims, if its off. I there a link to the shim club, I read about in an other thread? Got to get to work, oh yea, its going to be around 80 degrees and clear today, not that I'd rub it in.

Rick

Hi,

Look in the "GS Parts and Services" section for the Shim Club information.

Thank you for your indulgence,

BassCliff

:oOh man, I got the airbox from the guy I got my frame from to try and see if it would solve my problem. Well lesson learned, ask someone before you do something with these bikes. Even though 850Gs use the same everything as a 1000G, the airboxes are way to small. Anybody want to swap a nice '80-81 850G airbox for a 1000G airbox? Any takers PM me. I tell ya, swapping parts on cars are lot esier.

Its not the box...its the boots. Which you should replace anyway. Just order the correct ones.
