    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Engine won't slow down.

My GS1100G ran fine. Then it lost a coil. I pulled it in the garage performed what I thought was good maintenance Etc. Now that I finally got it to start after doing a coil relay mod , It won't decelerate. If I adjust the idle screw to 900-1100 rpm it will idle fine for a minute than race to the moon. I took for a jaunt this evening and when I tried to slow down and make a right turn it would not decelerate. When it races and I adjust the idle screw it then dies.:confused:

Some need to knows PO installed pods and VH4-1.
 
Did you replace the intake boot O-rings? If not, you might have an air leak.
 
I bet the throttle cable is trapped somewhere under the tank... Did you have the tank off? Must have done to do the mod! :)
 
If I wire tied throttle cable when tying up wires after relay mod could that cause the problem.:eek:

New intake pipes and orings installed.
 
Throttle cable is not tied down, its not sticking, All the linkage is free. New intake pipes and orings. And yet if I set idle at 1000 it eventually starts to race if I set it at 900 it dies. If I twist the throttle it won't slow down.
 
It;s a throttle cable issue... it's either hung up on the stop by the carbs or under the tank or something. Nothing else would really make it behave like that, not that I know of....

The first and simple thing you need to check is IF the throttle arm is in fact returning to "idle" and resting on the throttle stop adj. screw after you rev the engine and let off the throttle. If it is, then you still have an air leak.

You could possibly have partially stuck throttle shafts...
 
there are a couple things I can think of without being there


stuck timing advancer.

loose linkage bolt on carb body throttle cam

not controlling fuel

loosing a coil and sudden carb problems are 2 distinct non related issues.
so I think a little more attention might be needed on your ride.
 
It really sounds like some type of linkage / cable problem, but it could also be one of the 'usual suspects' as well (intake leak or carb sync); the typical runaway r.p.m. could have been dampened by a substandard / dying coil. Once there's a good coil at work, the underlying problem(s) show themselves.

That's my theory...

I am pretty new here, but I believe this is what happened to me. At first, the forum thought my throttle cable was binding underneath the tank. When I installed two new shorter cables for my clip-ons, I realized after the install with the gas tank off, that when letting go of the throttle, the spring failed to return the throttle arm to it's idle location at least one fourth of the time. I luckily had another spring from another set of carbs, put it on and it clunked back consistently from then on. I'm still nervous that this might not have solved the problem completely (will test today after I get the headlight and other electricals hooked up again).
