Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

I dont clear coat anything i polish ,kinda makes it dull if ya do in my opinion, the beauty of leaving it un cleared is u can allways shine it back up with a fine steel wool and it only takes a few mins.

Looking great man! I love the fender.
I've been taking some steel wool to '77 750. it doesn't look that good yet, but shes look better than the "before" pics of your. Wow that engine was rough looking.
Great polishing job.

For the engine on mine, I just scrubbed it clean with a toothbrush and some Simple Green. For the side cases, I just polish every now an then with Mother's. I did not clear coat anything. Where are you from? You must have some humidity in your neck of the woods. I don't. Just a quick bath and a quick polish and my motor and side cases look great. As for the cracks and crevaces, I used a dremmel originally, but now just polish by hand.

I live in Central Illinois, right now we are in the upper 90's w/ a humidity of 91%
it took approx. 2 days for it to start looking bad, but maybe i need to sand it to a finer grit (i stopped @ 800 grit) and user Mothers again... (i think i will try that sometime and post the results)

I was in checker auto last night and they had a buch of these in differnt sizes could be used in a drill, dremel, whatever, but they were like $1.20:-D for whatever size you wanted, along with skinny flapper sanding wheels.

just in case anyone else has been inspired and is trying to do this.

I've got about 60 hours of polishing just in the wheels on my bike. Tedious work and hard on the fingers. I used the wet sanding method. I just used a couple of different grades and used the worn out finer grade for the final sanding followed by polishing with compound and a cotton wheel.

Heres a recent pic of the bike from a few days ago still not done 100% tinkering with it but its getting close.

ScreamingLiL2stroke,

Very nice. Well done!

Thanks to you and everyone else here for the cleanup/polishing tips. I'll be putting them to the test this fall/winter.

I'll trade you even up... My 650, running strong... for your 650, looking good.. (If I ever get the 550 done I really would like to make the 650 look close to that, assuming it is still around)..

What's sort of working for flames on the fender & tail is not working on the tank. You killed yourself on the engine etc. and it looks great! The tank flames brought it in the other direction. Just my .02.

I change stuff like the weather so dont be suprised if the flames go by by lol

I've got a KZ400 in pieces.. and actually many pieces are now missing, would you consider that?? j/k

Just spotted some 650E carbs on e-bay and thought of you, did you ever get yours sorted out?

Amos

Yea i had to trim down the lil thing that the screw to adjsut the fuel sat in to get it loose,it acually runs pretty good now and the carbs are leaking coming from the airbox lol,i have a airbox i bought just havent got around to putting it on cause im also working on a drag quad,to many projects.

Might seem like a stupid question but do most of you guys pull the motor to polish or do you just do it on the bike?

Just curious.....

Mine's pulled, but you could get away with just removing the covers. If that's all youre planning on doing.

I did mine right on the bike i didnt remove anything ceppt the carbs

The forks do look pushed in ,in that pic musta been the angle i stood on for the pic.

I used a small gold wire brush on a dremel to go between the fins.

Theres got to be a better way. My engine looks awful. is there a compound that might work well for rust spots and heavy deposits? I've always used mothers, but I've never had a bike that needed this much love either. Also I messed up my shoulder pretty good and scrub scrub scrubin' just aint possible right now.
