    A note to new registrants...
All new forum registrations must be activated via email before you have full access to the forum.

A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

hello gs world. i just recently brought a 1982 gs1100g. It has 14,000 miles on it the previous owner had let it sit for 4 yrs. He sold it to me for $400 dollars. he told me that the tank was empty when he put it up and the bile was run till it stopped when he put it up for the winter. I checked the carb bowls, they were clean and looked exceptionally well. I changed all the fluids and put on new fuel lines. checked the spark plugs. all looked good . the petcock was frozen and the fuel line portion was missing. I took the tank off and pored gass in the new gass line.till i could not put no more in. Hit the starter and it turned over a couple times and it started. Ran fine. i reved it up and it started cutting out out at around 3400 rpms. I put more fuel in the line and tried it again. It cut right off. i checked the floats and tey all were at 22mms I thought the points were possable fouled but some one had allready changed them to eletronic. the plug wires are 8mm and the coils are axcells. it all seams to be fireing well. am i missing an advance on the bike and where is it. or is there something else i could be missing?

You can get said service manual from BassCliff's site

Your bike never had points, it came from the factory with electronic ignition

The problem you're having could come from a bad ignitor, dirty carbs, air leaks or improper tuning. Or, just not enough available fuel

Why not put the gas tank back on and put more gas in it and see what happens?

Are you running with the stock Airbox assembly?
If so, good. If not...bad.

Ensure everything is airtight.

Also make sure to plug the vaccum line off, if you are running without a gas tank.
This line feeds from the middle top of the Carb rack and normally runs up to the gas tank, on the petcock area.
