As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

I was told by a former GS owner to make the bike louder by drilling out the three layers of suppression??? inside the pipes. He said to take a long drill bit and drill into each hole in the end of the pipes and the bike would be louder and sound better.

I am wondering if anyone knows anything about this.

I believe the pipes are stock.

Thanks
Matt

That certainly would make it louder. I am not familiar with the guts of a stock Suzuki pipe, but most OEM pipes are a baffle type muffler and drilling extra/bigger holes will usually increase noise. Whether that sounds "better" or not is a matter of opinion. The quality of the sound is what sounds "good" or "bad", which is not the same as the quantity, or volume level. Also, you may dislodge baffles or otherwise screw things up inside and end up with loose pieces rattling around or blocked passages, which hurt performance (power, fuel mileage, driveability) and generally sound terrible.

If you really want a louder bike you are much better off with a slip-on or full aftermarket exhaust system that was designed for that in the first place. Another choice would be to buy another set of stock mufflers and try drilling them and see what happens. That way, if you screw them up you won't be off the road while trying to sort a new exhaust system for the bike.

I have to recommend that you just don't touch your stock exhaust. I tried another method I was told to do to make my exhaust louder: remove the baffles from the exhaust. Yeah, it makes it louder, but after all was said and done, I got a crash course in carburetor rejetting and ended up having to buy a $300 aftermarket exhaust setup when I realized how much of a nightmare these bikes can be when having to rejet because of modifying the stock exhaust.

I would just leave it alone, but it's your call.

I almost always do the destroy a baffel thing on every bike i own. Then you must look at your spark plugs before and after. You may or may not have to rejet depending on what color/colour the plugs were before you started your mod.
If opening the pipes in that manner has any efect on the engine other than just noise((sometimes it has absolutely no effect) You will/may experience a change in where the engine performs smoothly.

Usually nothing can be done without some effect somewwhere else.

If you enjoy the hobby and perhaps have a pit bike in your stable then go for it.

Just dont believe any old biker that say"all you have to do is"

Myself and Pmint are the only folks that figured a way to increase horsepower and performance dramatically with a very little amount of work and expense.

Mr displaced, please share your masterful wisdom so that we to may have untold power!

being that I am still learning and don't know very much about working on bikes I am not interested in doing anything that is going to create a bunch of difficult work for me or cost me lots of money. so I think I will avoid doing this.

can anyone give me suggestions of what to look for as far as pipes/mufflers that would give the bike a better/louder sound?

thanks for all the assistance

Well it was a baiting statement Paul. P-mint Used to put 750 badges on her 1100cc job 8O and i just started using 750 bages on my under construction busa eater.
The purpose it to get the chicken hearted who will only run a bike of much smaller CCs suckered into a race.
It is not a good mod for those who absolutely must have everything OEM.
Duncan has been trying to steal the badges off his wifes gs250 to put on his 1100 Kat.
so far he has only been shot 3 times.
