This is probably old news, but hey - I was bored waiting for the paint to dry.

There has been a question or 2 on this recently. Since I was doing it anyway, thought I'd share my pics.

Actually it was like that when I got the bike last june. She wasn't very well taken care of cosmetic wise.

I'm trying to find a new(er) exhaust. There is a new header on e-bay, just waiting. They keep going for $$, so I figure there must be a lot of 750E's out there. :wink: :wink:

In the mean time, this will do in a pinch. One more bolt to get and I'm back on the road. Just in time for this cold front that our friends in Canada sent down.

Holy crow Dave, that header is BEAT! Any weird carb problems or popping noise from the can? 8O 8O 8O

I see those exhausts that pop up on ebay. I've got a search set up that notifies my of anything that has "GS750" and "exhaust" in the same title. Keep your eyes peeled for something used with no dents. You should be able to get a deal sooner or later. good luck!

How did my new header get past you? (3 weeks ago)
It was listed under gs750 header. A supertrap that fits your 750 and my 1000. GREAT shape! no dents or scrapes and just a bit of oxidation.

Picked it up for $88 looks and sounds nice. And after a carb work over it will perform.

So keep your eyes open, they're out there

Yes, I looked at that one. I've been contemplating on ceramic coating my existing pipe and I was not sure. Good thing here is that you got a good deal on a pipe and I am not losing sleep over it since I am going to have my pipes coated.

I'm still looking at dave's pipe and wondering though :-k

may get some of those head pipes to match #-o

I got to say, I knew they were beat when I got the bike, but I never had them off and didn't realize how badly. I'd say the guy must have hit some speed bumps pretty good, or maybe took the bike off roading. 8O

Wife says I got to wait til I get my income tax.
I'm still going to watch the ones on e-bay. I just saw another pop up, but can't be certain of the year.

Mine doesn't have the cross support, and that looks like it would make changing my oil a total b$tch. :? :? Could be removed though.

From what I've researched here and other sites, no exhaust made for a GS bike other than an '83+ 700/750E or '84-'85 750S will work on your bike.


The 750 motor was all new in '83, so older pipes (even if the exhaust inlet diameter is the same) will not be long enough to clear your oil pan. I tried a 750S pipe from the same year with no luck, for reference.

Single-cam pipes will not fit, double cam pipes up to '82 will not fit, either. An '83 750T pipe will not fit.... The '83 750E's engine is taller, if for no other reason. Suzuki went with this motor for the Katanas for '84 and '85, then discontinued the model for '86 (in the US) in favor of a more "modern" Kat.

You'll need an '83+ 750/700E or an '84-'85 Katana pipe, if you want to stay with GS pipes. You can also use an '85 (86 in the us) through '91 GSXR 750/1100 pipe, with minor mods...


On another note - every pipe I've found for my bike had a damaged collector - both a Supertrapp and a Yosh. These bikes had 6" of ground clearance in stock form, and with old suspension components getting soft over time, the pipes will touch down on any speed bump if you don't crawl over it. I finally found a Kerker with one tiny dent in a down tube, and no flattening underneath - it's like gold, I tell you. Just keep looking - it only took me 2 years to find this one....


There are a couple of companies in Europe that still make pipes for our bikes, but they're in the $500-$700 range....

If all else fails, take the one you have to an exhaust shop or chopper shop and see if they can use it as a template to make you a new one....

Q - Thanks for the info. That helps out a bunch.

I talked to a local guy I know who does welding. Earl made an excellent suggestion and I think I will give it a shot.

Heat the pipe til red, the using a steel ball and a cable, pull the ball thru the pipes. This should open it back up.

H$ll of an idea. I may get it done for free too, not sure if the guy remembers some favors I've done for him. :wink: :wink:

yeah whaen i bought my bike i could tell it took a dip the handle bar grip and footpegs on one side were scrached and the exaust had a big dent and scratches also my shift shaft was warped to crap i had to take it out cut off the end of the shift part and make a identical pieace on a lath from solid steal tube welded it back together works great
