Ok as I see it, from some of the info Ive picked up from the post in the past,

well let put it this way I wanna stick a flashy cool looking pipe on my GS1150, will a oil cooled early GSXR after market pipe Headers fit, I have my own welding shop and can handle making the brackets and what not ,....Im just looking or some info.....about the headers and what will fit my BYKE

So come on there give me a clue

Signed
Confused and clueless
them bloody drag style systems that are low and stick out suck

will the SUZUKI GSXR1100 86-92 fit

Yes Joe.d they will any exhaust off an oilcooled 1100 will fit the water cooled ones wont. I have heard but have not confirmed that the exhausts off a 1200 bandit will also fit.

I purchased a V&H SS2R for an 88-92 GSXR1100 to put on my project bike and it had some problems. The header bolt spacing for my 1980 GS1100 is 2.550" (pretty close anyway). The bolt spacing on the GSXR pipe is 2.325" (again pretty close). This means that the flanges that came with the pipe cannot be used. This pipe also has aluminum inserts that mate to the exhaust ports. The inserts are not deep enough.

This means that I will have to fab some flanges at a minimum. I may be able to get away with some spacers used with the insert. The exhaust port spacing is OK, as is the clearance on the pipes if you remove the foot pegs and replace with rear sets - which I am.

Billy, could you get get a rough measurement on your header flanges. I wonder if the bolt spacing on a 700 is less than that of an 1100. I'm kind of stumped how yours could work right out of the box if this isn't true.

Anyway, some food for thought.

Hey Joe.d

I run a Hindle pipe on my 1150. It's a great pipe, spring loaded for easy removal. I cut the can in half because I didn't like the 18 " can ending at the back of the rear wheel.

Gerry, it seems whenever I want to see something the link doesn't work. I think it's a good link, as I have it marked as a favorite from earlier.

Anyway, I looked at your bike - nice. Do you have a part # or price on that pipe? Do you have any idea if the 1150 and 1100 exhaust ports match up, in spacing and bolt patern? I'm not concerned too much about the fit past the midpoint on the bike as I am modifying the peg location.

One more question - can you still use the center stand? I'm not using mine, but the monoshock I added will interfere with the pipe if you can't.

Thanks for any info.

Hey Swanny,

The pipe that I run (same as Billy) is a race pipe. It comes with the flanges that bolt to the head and the pipe it self is mounted with springs. So the pipe is a little more forgiving as far as spacing goes. The flanges fit fine but it was ordered for my bike not a gixer.

I've never had a center stand for my bike. When I bought it there was a Yosh pipe on it and I believe that both pipes needed it removed.

The Hindle link worked for me, it has a long intro that you can skip. I looked for my bike on there and couldn't find it. I did notice that they had different numbers for the different oil cooled years. This might be why Billy's pipe fits and yours is less of a good fit (guess on my part). I copied the list and posted it below. Hope this helps.

The pipe I run was bought for the EF from Hindle. They don't list it on there site but if you contact them you can get the part number and price. I just listed the prices for Swanny because he couldn't get the link to work.

Gerry,

First, thanks for the info.

I'm not having any problems with the fit of the GSXR pipes on exhaust spacing. The problem is the bolt spacing on the exhaust flanges. I don't think the model year makes any difference as long as you stay oil cooled and at a given displacement. Again, I said I don't think - I won't bet any body parts right now.

To restate the problem, the bolt spacing on the exhaust flanges for the 88-92 GSXR1100 is not the same as my '80 GS1100. It may be the same as the GS700. I don't have a bike to make the measurements on.

I have called various manufactures and haven't gotten any replies so far. Not much in it for them I guess.

I hate to have new flanges fabed up, since this is going to cost some dollars. The problem lies in the sequence of putting this bike together. You need to get one part made and installed in order to check the next part. In this case the rear mounts and then the rear sets.

I'll call Hindle and see if they still sell the GS1150 pipe. I may be stuck with the one I have right now, however.

Steve,
The port diameter on '83 and up 700/750's is smaller than earlier model 750/1000/1100's. The spacing is the same as far as I know, just smaller diameter. That's what's got you screwed on the flanges. I believe all air/oil GSXR750/1100's had the same diameter as the '83 and up 700/750's. I'm not sure of the port diameter on the '83 and up 1100/1150's. As long as you get a good seal on the flange you might be able to slot them so they will bolt up. You could always add an extra donut, maybe 2, in the port to bring the mating surface out further.

Billy, I thought about slotting them also. I haven't quite brought myself to that point yet. (I am waffling on returning this pipe). The extra donut idea is pretty good, except for the mating issues. The insert is a bit smaller in diameter (outer) and does not make 100% contact with the gaskets. I'm afraid the crush seal won't be that great. I have drawn up some dimensions on a 'washer' that would fit between the old seal and the GSXR seal that mates with the new pipe. This spaces it out properly and also provides the proper gasket seal area.

What a pain in the 'you know what'! I'm just waiting for something to go right for a change.
