A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Hey - I am 40 years of age, and lack most of the foresight and wisdom that this community provides.

The only stupid question is the one you didn't wait to hear the answer for... of?... to... or somethin.

keep it up ;)

Thank you. I'm in my second year for my associates degree. I don't normaly brag about stuff but I got a 3.92

I'm 20 to and am glad that I realize when to get help. but there are time when I definitely lack foresight and wisdom.

Joe College: You missed the joke. You spelled college wrong and you missed an "o" in "too".:-D

Must be an engineering student...We don't put all that much emphasis on korrect gramer and speling

oh yeah, about the dent. I had a pretty deep knee dent in mine from the P.O. I took it too a couple body shops (one that does custom bikes) and they just said fill it...They could try to pull it, but it would just create lots of little dents. Something about the metal being tough, and not taking the original shape back. I guess its pretty hard to shrink the steel back into the proper form....

If u feel out the Mployment aplipkation like dat u wont haff 2 worry aboutgettin a gig as a Ngineer. but u might cud get a jub as a technicalriter and arthur servise manuels.

foresight...wisdom...common sense? come on...everyone knows that fumes are just as(if not more so) explosive than gas....thats why you turn your car off and don't smoke cigarettes when at a gas station....

btw, as a recent grad, if your grammar and spelling are up to the level we have seen...you are in DEEP SH!T. Employers will not talk to you if you send them a letter full of mistakes. Your resume will go directly into the "circular inbox"....

So I suggest taking a phonics course.

Gnite. If there was a mod around this thread should almost be deleted just for the fact that it starts off condoning a possibly harmful idea.

I just know that this one is going to end up on Mythbusters.

Amen! Love that show!

Rule of thumb: Gas and heat - bad. Gas and enclosed space and ignition - worse! Never ignite gas in or on your bike...EVER!

Other rule of thumb: If applying heat or spark to the gas tank, ensure that it is 100% free of gas (fumes and liquid) before hand.

Some may consider these rules a bit on the conservative/overly cautious side. My opinion is this: You can always ride with a dented tank but you can't ride if you blow off a body part. :-D

Recommendation: Take it to an expert shop or use a non-combustible method yourself.

I?m not going to put the same significance on spelling and grammar when replying to a form online then I would put on a r?sum?.

No difference, writitng is writing. There is a right way and a wrong way. I personally would encourage everybody to always try and write (spell) correctly. It makes the post easier to understand and much easier to read.
We all have a laugh here but I don't think anybody intends any malice.

For sure. I wasn't trying to be nasty to anyone, goofy, yeah, I was doing that . :-D

I don't want to tell you how many times I've had to look up (sic) 'reccommenndd' on Answers.com for which ones and how many.

I'm a little concerned about accusations of promoting bad ideas and dangerous behaviour. It's not being promoted, it is being inquired about. anyone who might be considering explosives for body work would in all likely hood read on and decided to not attempt.

concerning the promotion of dangerous behaviour, I do not see how that is an issue. Considering the nature of other threads on this forum concerning behaviour such as running from police, speeding or racing, increasing torque or power output, I do not see how this thread is in any way unusual or particularly threatning. In fact the only thing this thread is guilty of is drawing out a bad grammer joke.

I have one more additional concern, and that is the tone and precident being set by such sensorship of threads and posts. I am under the impression that the mandate of this forum is to share knowledge and experiance, providing answers and advice to anyone wanting to know about or related to GS's. Supposedly, ALL questions and inquiries are welcome, and no question is too stupid, basic, or rediculous. Editing, sensoring, or deletion of this thread would contradict this mandate, in that this thread would be classified as too basic/stupid/rediculous.

A while back I asked this community about helmets, particularly about full face vs 3/4 and value/cost trade offs. perhaps it is also too basic to even wonder if a full helmet is better than a 3/4?

Why is that no one seems to become overly concerned when ever someone cuts into their frame? I have seem many frame modifications posted on this forum about how good they look, or how functional they are, but I am yet to see a discussion about stress/strain calculations, resulting metal crystal structure alteration, creep, or cyclic fatigue, and certainly nothing about how to evaluate, consider or calculate them. some how this sort of behaviour is more acceptable or less concerning than a gas tank fixing trick that is probably not much more dangerous than sticking a cherry bomb under a garbage can.

Don't even get me started on big bore kits

Oh, and buy the way.
ONLY FUMES are flamable. Liquid gas is infact completely harmess. It is only when gas vapours mix with oxygen that potencial chemical energy is created, and combustion is possible. anyone who has ever welded an oil tank will understand.

True enough. But if you eliminate the presence of the liquid it greatly reduces the possiblity of encountering the fumes by "accident".

Incidentally, I agree that there are other activities on this forum that are not necessarily putting safety first, but lighting up a "small amount" of gas in a tank is an all or nothing proposition. Depending on the variables it might do nothing, it might do something minor, or it might create a bomb, kill the owner, set their bike and home on fire and burn down a row of attached townhouses and the people in them. I, for one, consider it much more dangerous than frame modification (although I would never consider modifying a frame).
