    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

fairing vibration

I have a 1984 gs1100gk and the fairing vibrates does any one think rubber mounting it would help.
Or any other ideas would be appreciated.:eek:
 
Go get a set of valve stems. Cut the fat part off the bottom of the vales with a pair of dikes. Use the fat part as a bushing between the frame and the faring. It will greatly reduce the vibration.
 
First of all what type of fairing do you have?
I've got a Wes Cooley cafe fairing on my 1100E and had a very annoying vibration as I would initially start up through the gears. When I had originally ordered my windscreen from Gustaffsons plastics I had also ordered this close-out trim piece that clips onto the trailing edge of the windshield, I decided to put it on a couple weeks ago and my vibration has almost totally disappeared, I guess it just helped to stiffen the windscreen, worked for me.

If it's not the windscreen vibrating then where is the vibration?
How do you have it mounted? Does it use OEM mount brackets or is it mounted using self manufactured parts?
 
If it is the fairing mounts that are your problem then first you need to determine if they are OEM or if they were self manufactured for the specific use in your application. If they are OEM then there should be provisions for hard rubber bushings already, if they are self manufactured then you need to either re-manufacture these mounts providing the ability to install hard rubber bushings or find a way to install them.

Another thing to consider is if they are self manufactured mounts, were they mounted in the proper place to provide the proper amount of support required to lessen the amount of vibration which in turn reduces the weakening and cracking of the fairing and/or mounts.

Also you should be able to purchase sheets of rubber at your local hardware store.

JasonEllis', response is pretty much the same as mine just a lot less winded, go to Discount Tires and tell them you want some of their scraps, I'm sure they would gladly oblige, Discount Tires are good people.
