DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

1) Okay. On 85F days, the idle on my cycle would creap up to 2.5k Rpm after a 10 minute ride. On 95F days the idle would sit around 3K Rpm after a 10 minute ride.

2) If not started every other day I needed spray starter fluid to start the cycle.

3) The other day warmed it up just fine. Took less than 5 minutes to get it off of choke and had a smooth idle. Goosed it a bit just for kicks and then the idle dropped out. Started it up, fired fine, had to give the throttle a little twist to keep the idle going. Next day pulled the tank to paint it, put the petcock on PRI to drain it and no fuel would flow out. Had to mess with it for a while (turning it from Res to Run) and all at once without cause it started draining no matter if it was on Res, Run, or PRI.

I'm looking at replacing the petcock. Could this be the primary cause of question #1 & 2?

Flooded most of the time? Running rich?

Its a vacuum Petcock, and hose was attached.

Thanks.

Idle creeping up as you warm up is a symptom of a lean condition. Usually a vacuum leak but it could also be not getting enough fuel (fuel starvation). I would check your intake boots and air box boots (if you have an air box still) for air leaks before and aft the carbs.

Your petcock is also toast. Get a rebuild kit and rebuild it. It is possible that your problems were related to this since you may not have been getting enough fuel.

PO drilled a hole in air box big as my pinkey at first knuckle. And it wasn't running an air filter...figure this could cause a lean condition.

Absolutely. Get an air filter in there first. After that you may be OK. If not we can go from there but that for sure is an issue. The hole in your air box may be stock unless your 100% positive it was hand drilled by the PO. The stock air box has holes in it about that size from the factory.

absolutely sure po drilled the hole. A factory hole would be straight in not at an oddball angle. Was put there just for starter spray.

Not going to start the bike until spring time. have the tank off and other odds and ends and am going to paint it...I'm not a Lavender kind of guy.

Thanks for the advice!

Short of money, need new petcock, mufflers, starter solenoid. Am bringing it in during the winter to polish and paint.

Again, thanks for the help man.

Not a problem. It's a nice bike man! Well worth your time and money to fix her up. Yeah I agree you need to paint it a "man's" color

It looks to be in really good shape. I would also recommend patching the hole the PO put in the air box back shut. When your ready to tinker and need a hand, just post in here. Because if you think I was helpful then your in for a treat. There are guys on here who actually know what they are talking about and can help you with anything you need on the old girl. Not like me with my limited, half learned helpless tips :?

Ain't winter time great?
