    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Anyone experienced this before? Any ideas?

I have a gs1000 with V&H drag pipes. The pipes came with the bike but were never installed on it. The fender that was on the bike had a dent just like the one pictured.

I bought a good new fender to replace it with but have now discovered that it rubs and is now dented in the same spot. ((Funny thing is that I thought the steering was acting notchy and was prepared to replace the steering head bearings when I noticed the dent in the new fender.))

It only rubs when I am on the bike. The forks are fully loaded with air.


Second question ??? Will a set of pipes from an 83 GS1100 fit on my bike?
 
I think I have answered my own question on the fender... air had bled out of the shocks... even though I had rebuilt them less than a year ago.

Even though you lost air the fender should still not foul the pipes, are the fork tubes straight? If so then the pipes are not correct.
 
I do believe the drag pipes come out a bit further then the stock or street megaphones. Might want to find that out. Ditch the air in the forks and get new fork springs from Sonic Springs and use a bit heavier fork oil. Also, make sure the fender is fitting close to the tire like it should, there shouldn't be much space between the inside of the fender and the tire.

I didn't see this post till now. I will check that.

I assumed the fender only fit one way because there are 4 bolts.... but it makes sense because my other fender never scraped.

I also think these V&H straight pipes do stick out farther than they should... so I will be also looking for a different 4 in 1 pipe in my future.

In the meantime I put 3/4" spacers in my forks (ditched the air) and just cut the bottom off my fender.

It's the drag pipes, they don't work very well for a street bike. They drag on every right turn, they hit the fender, just no good for a street bike.
