    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Just cleaned my carbs and wanted to make sure there are no fuel leaks before I put them back on the bike.

THEN I find out the auxiliary fuel tank I bought wants to connect to a 1/8 inch fuel line. Seriously? I have aquarium tubing that's bigger than that.

Time to rig up another blankety-blank-blank adaptor I guess. Can anybody tell me what the dimensions of a GS750 fuel line is? The fiche at Bikebandit says the fuel line is "7X10,2X200." Can someone explain to me what dimensions that describes?


 
1/4" is 6.35 mm. 5/16" is 7.9375 mm. OEM fuel line is 7 mm. You can see that in the part number. Inside diameter is 7 mm, outside diameter is 10 mm.

If you use 1/4" fittings on OEM fuel line, you will need to use clamps. If you use 5/16" fitting on OEM fuel line, you will have to stretch the hose to get on the fitting.

If you use 1/4" fuel line on your bike fittings, you will really have to stretch it to fit. If you use 5/16" fuel line on your bike fittings, you will have to use clamps.

One other point: most fuel lines that you get at the auto parts store are reinforced to withstand the pressure of fuel injection and are really THICK.
They might not make some of the turns that are required on the bike.

Thanks. I went to the farm supply store to see if they had the thin stuff but all they had was the reinforced hose. I bought some 1/4" anyway and didn't have any luck getting it onto the fuel nipple on the carbs. I don't need to replace any lines on the bike, I just need some way to connect the aux tank to it.

Do you think the 1/8" fitting on the aux tank will flow enough fuel to run the 750 while I'm making adjustments? Or should I plan on modifying the tank's fittings for something bigger?
 
I think once you have your bowls full the thinner line should work. I use prestone 5/16 line for my bike and I have a clamp on the tank side but its snug without it. If you go to home depot or the like you should be able to find a barbed adapter for a couple of bucks to take you from your thin tube to the heavier tubing. If not you can certainly cobble something together from the parts on the wall in the plumbing section.

I dont have an auxiliary tank. I put my gas tank on a dinner tray next to the bike up on 2 2x4s and I have a section of clear hose with a barbed adapter so I dont have to remove the small section of fuel line that is attached to the carbs. The tank is high enough to gravity feed and if I am working on the carbs I will have the tank off anyway.
 
I found a generic plastic fuel valve with 1/4" hose barbs for a garden tractor at Lowes for $10. I used it to replace the brass petcock on the aux tank. (That was easier that making a 1/8" - 1/4" adaptor.) It fits the stock fuel line to the carb rack well enough for testing purposes.

I'm glad I tried it out before I remounted the carbs on the bike. The #1 needle valve seems to be stuck open, and I get flow from the overflow nipple. I'll pull the bowl this weekend and clean the needle & seat then try again. If that doesn't do it, I have a matched set of spares that should work.
